Lyman “Jackie” Cole, 78, of Quitman, died on Saturday January 10, 2026. He was born in Hahira to the late Elizabeth Griffin Cole and Lyman “Jack” Cole Sr. on October 23, 1947. Mr. Cole was a disabled veteran who served his country in the army infantry in the Vietnam conflict.
After his retirement from military service, he became a member of American Legion Post #218 and also spent his time raising cows on the farm that he owned. Mr. Cole enjoyed making cane syrup, using his welding and mechanic skills, and was a jack of all trades. He loved his grandchildren immensely and had a great sense of humor, and was a friendly man who never met a stranger.
Mr. Cole is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Donna Cole of Quitman, GA; his daughters and sons-in-law Missy & Lee LeFiles and Kelly & Chuck Young, all of Hahira, GA; his grandchildren Leesy LeFiles of Marianna, FL and Milli LeFiles of Hahira, GA; three sisters, Mary Jane (Richard) Burgess of Moultrie, GA, Sue Cole of Hahira, GA, and Mickie (Bill) Cason of White Springs, FL; a brother, Jim (Wendi) Cole of Hahira, GA; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents and sister, Anne Fowler.
A funeral service for Mr. Cole will be held on Tuesday January 13 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of the Martin-McLane Funeral Home in Hahira, GA, with Rev. Mike Davis and Mr. Danny Brevig officiating. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service from 12 – 2 p.m at the funeral home. Following the service, burial will take place at Friendship Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Post #218, PO Box 33, Hahira, GA 31632. Condolences may be made online at www.mclanecares.com. Martin/McLane.
