A Life of Faith, Love, and Service
Pastor Lyn Denise Horne was called home into the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father on October 15, 2025. She was born on December 1, 1954, in
Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Willie C. Taylor and Arena Harrell Taylor. The youngest of 14 children, Lyn was cherished by her large and loving family. At the age of 11, she was baptized by Pastor Brown-a moment that marked the beginning of her lifelong walk with Christ.
Lyn graduated from Andrew Jackson Senior High School in 1972. In 1978, Lyn married Earl Horne, Jr., and together they shared forty-seven years of marriage-a union grounded in trust, love, and mutual devotion to God and one another. Her sisters were among the first to recognize the call of God upon her life to preach His Word. Together, with her sister Rose, she would write and send inspirational newsletters to family members, sharing scriptures, reflections, and words of encouragement that uplifted those who received them.
Faith, Ministry, and Service
Lyn possessed a true servant's heart, a deep love for people, and a steadfast determination to "trust God." She held a ministerial license and was ordained as a Minister of the Church of God in 2019 by Florida Church of God Ministries- a distinction she wore humbly and faithfully.
She served as an assimilating pastor at Northside Church of God, where she preached the Word, visited congregants, counseled families, officiated weddings, and presided over funerals. She and her husband faithfully hosted Bible study and prayer groups in their home, creating a space of fellowship, encouragement, and spiritual growth for all who attended. Together, they also led a visitation ministry for the sick and shut-in, bringing comfort, prayer, and companionship to those unable to attend services in person.
In earlier years, Lyn shared her creative gifts through the drama ministry at Greater Jacksonville Church of God, developing performances that brought scripture to life. Her heart for missions led her beyond the walls of the church. She completed missionary work nationally and abroad, traveling to Peru and Ecuador to serve in churches and schools, spreading the gospel and demonstrating God's love through action.
Beyond her ministry calling, Lyn served her community in multiple ways - as a Florida notary public and as a respected professional in the mortgage industry.
Passions, Gifts, and Hobbies
Lyn loved life and lived it to the fullest. Lyn expressed her love for God through every creative act. She had a green thumb, tending her own rose garden and delighting in watching her blooms grow as a gift from God.
She enjoyed bowling, traveling, sewing, designing clothes and purses, and even reupholstering furniture. She loved to cook and bake, often bringing family together over delicious meals and laughter. She enjoyed drawing, painting, singing, and traveling - creative and joyful acts that reflected her connection to God.
Above all, Lyn treasured prayer, time in God's presence, and studying the Word. Her devotional life was the wellspring from which all other parts of her life flowed.
Children and Family
Lyn and Earl were blessed with six children-two through marriage: Earl Horne III (Antonia) and Terence L. Horne (Pamela), and four from their union: Dejuan D. Horne (Rahsaan), Shamaya T. Clark (Christopher), Cornelius Horne, and Daniel D. Horne. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Earlisha, Earl IV, Ashante, Aleia, Elisha, Terence Jr., Asia, Amber, Jailyn, Khamaia, Jet, Damani, Jelani, Ayanna, Dakari, Jaiden, Kori, Kai, and Clark. She now rejoins her precious grandchildren Imani and Dejuan II, who preceded her in death.
Her family-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless spiritual sons and daughters-will continue to carry forward her legacy of faith, love, and service.
A Legacy of Love
Pastor Lyn's warmth, humility, steadfast faith, and servant's heart touched lives across generations. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue - in the hearts she touched, the prayers she prayed, the lives she guided, and the garden she nurtured.
Her work on earth is done, and she has entered into the joy of her Lord.
