Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Bennett Funeral Home on Oct. 29, 2024.
Lynda Sue Brack Lake was born on February 1st, 1950, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her father was called back into military service during the Korean conflict, so Lynda moved from Minnesota to Texas, Oklahoma, and finally ended up in Chesterfield (St. Louis County), Missouri. Lynda graduated from Parkway Central High School in 1968 and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she earned her teaching certificate in the spring of 1972.
Lynda met her future husband, Bruce, on December 24, 1971, at a neighbors' Christmas Eve party that neither she nor her future husband wanted to attend. Upon graduation, Lynda began her teaching career in Union, Missouri at Union Elementary School where she taught for 2 years. Lynda and Bruce were married on August 4th, 1973, and lived in Baldwin, Missouri. It was a long commute to Union, and in the fall of 1974, she transferred to the Pattonville School District in Florissant (St. Louis County), Missouri, where she taught for 3 years.
In the fall of 1978, Lynda and Bruce moved to Newburgh, Indiana, with her husband's job and built their first house. Lynda took time off from teaching in Indiana to care for her two new baby girls. In 1983, Bruce's job required a move to Marietta, Georgia. In 1986, Lynda began a career in the Cherokee County School District at Johnston Elementary School. Lyna earned her Master's Degree in education attending evening classes at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, GA. Her final teaching career move was to E. T. Booth Middle School where she taught 7th grade science. Lynda always loved teaching; she cared for her students and was often visited by former students from the neighboring high school.
Lynda retired from teaching in May of 2014. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, of 51 years, two daughters, Bree and Erin of Georgia, a brother John and Beverly Brack of Wentzville, Missouri, a sister Lucy Beecher Budd of Flagler Beach, Florida, a sister-in-law Cynthia and Stanley Ponce of Lexington Virginia, and a brother-in-law Ronald and Kristine Lake, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, seven nephews and three nieces.
Lynda had a special impact in our world with both her students and friends she made along the way. She was a quiet Christian who followed in the footsteps of her Christ in her daily life as she served those around her. She will be missed terribly. But because of our faith, we know we will see her again.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Vera Elizabeth Moutray Lake and Billy Lake.
