Obituary for Lyn Shanahan. Wife, Mother, Musician, Nurse, Artist

9-25-1957 - 1-14-2026

They can rev up the fun in heaven. Our angel, Lynette Marie Shanahan lost her fight with pneumonia on January 14, 2026 with her son and husband standing over her. Lyn, 68, resided in Ocala, Fl since 1991. She was born on September 25, 1957 in Wadsworth, OH to Franklin D Straiton and Susan E. Harris, where she was raised and graduated from Wadsworth H.S. class of '76. After some time in factories, she enrolled in college and earned her AA from Univ. of Akron. She married Timothy S. Shanahan in Sept. 1981 and Lyn worked in social services for local agencies. They moved to Martinsville, VA in 1984 to follow Tim's work.

Lyn began working on her nursing degree at Patrick Henry Comm College and the pair welcomed their only child, Timothy Atticus in 1985. Lyn graduated with honors and continued her work as an RN. In Ocala, Lyn continued working in a wide variety of nursing disciplines. She took up tennis and played in local leagues, served a stint as president of the local cancer society and enjoyed Ocala gourmet club dinners with Tim. Soon she developed a passion for all things percussion studying and taking lessons in a wide variety of drums from around the world. Along the way she took up mountain dulcimer, mandolin, guitar and cello.

Lyn and Tim retired in their mid 50's and Lyn pursued art and solo trail hiking, belonging to the FL Trail Assoc and other hiking related groups. Together Lyn and Tim enjoyed international travel and became fixtures at some local music jams. Lyn was always scouting for places and people to play with. They also operated a food bank for some years at a local church. Lyn was a strong supporter of people and causes that spoke to her heart. She was a devoted wife to Tim for 45 years, and steadfast loving mother to

her son.

She made time fly with a wicked sense of humour and lively spontaneous nature. She continued enjoying music, art, and marveling. She leaves behind her devoted and loving husband Tim, son Timothy Atticus (NYC); brothers: David Straiton (Cathy) of TX, and Derek Straiton (Carolyn) of Ohio along with numerous loving cousins, in laws, and nieces and nephews. To all of those who were her friends, know you were loved and warmed her heart. You served her needs as she worked to serve yours. If inclined you can remember her by providing help to women in need of care. Services in Ocala and Ohio will be announced at a later date..
