Lynette Carol Webb-West (Lynn) was born on April 11, 1955, in Omaha, Nebraska, the oldest of four daughters born to Joseph and Doris Webb. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where her faith became the foundation of her life.
In the summer of 1984, Lynn met the love of her life, Charles West. The two were married on June 27, 1987, and shared 38 beautiful years together. Their union was blessed with two children, Monica and Charles (CJ).
A proud graduate of Omaha Central High School, Class of 1973, Lynn went on to attend the University of Omaha, where she earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and her Master’s degree in Education in 1984. During her time there, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and remained an active and devoted member for many years. Lynn began her teaching career in 1977 and went on to teach first grade at Holling Heights Elementary for 31 years. Teaching was her true calling, and she poured her heart into every lesson and every child who entered her classroom. In recognition of her dedication, she was honored as Teacher of the Year in May 1998. Though she retired in 2008 due to health challenges, Lynn continued to share her gift as a private tutor and reading interventionist at Boyd Elementary for several years.
Her love for God and service continued through her lifelong membership at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years, she served faithfully as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and for the past 17 years, as Christian Education Director. Lynn organized countless church activities, including charity drives, Christmas programs, and church picnics—always ensuring that others felt included and loved.
Lynn found joy in life’s simple moments—taking car rides, playing games, going out to eat, and listening to music. She especially loved reading to her grandson, Elijah, and connecting with family and friends. Above all, she cherished being a devoted child of God, a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, “Grammy,” sister, and friend.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Doris Webb. She leaves to cherish her memory, husband Charles; daughter Monica; son CJ; son-in-law Jamal; grandson Elijah; sisters Regina (Freddie Haywood), and Marcelle (John Williams) of Clearwater, FL, and Leslie (Omaha); along with nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, kindness, and unwavering faith.
