Lynn Miller Cobb, known affectionately as Buford and papaw, passed away on November 9, 2024, at the age of 90. He was born on February 1, 1934, in Caryville, TN, and spent most of his long life in Rockwood, TN.
Lynn dedicated his life to his family, which he considered his proudest accomplishment. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Janice Cobb, and their children: Vicky Peterson and Jeff Cobb, who shares his life with partner Brittany True. Lynn was a cherished grandfather to Brett Peterson, Zach Peterson, Brittany Watlington, Allie Patterson, Carly Schrade, Jaci Cobb, Chloie Robbins, Tyler Hall, as well as a devoted great-grandfather to Railey Jones, Ellie Patterson, Amelia Watlington, Henry Watlington, Georgia Schrade, Denver Schrade, Wyatt Walsh, and Paisley Robbins. As well as a loved brother to his sister: Faye Newberry.
An avid enthusiast of restoring and collecting antique cars, Lynn also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a passionate supporter of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sports and extracurricular activities. Sundays were a particularly special time for the Cobb family, as they gathered for lunch at his home, where he took his place at the head of the table, he always supervised his favorite part of the meal, dessert.
Lynn was honored for his commitment as a 50-year Shriner and was known for his hard work; he continued to work nearly every day until just weeks before his passing. His family will miss seeing papaw at the dining table. His children may miss him telling them exactly what do and how to do it. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss his loving pinches, hugs, back pats, and knee squeezes. Everyone will miss his grumbles, his huffs and puffs when he was having a moment of frustration. Above all, they will remember him as a man of kindness and charity, always ready to lend a hand or offer the shirt off his own back to those in need.
Lynn left this world surrounded by his loving family, having shared one last meal together, embodying the dedication and love he carried for them throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm ET at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm ET with Bro. Bud Strader officiating.
