Lynn Grice Obituary

Lynn 'Scoot' Grice, 91, of Clearfield, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Scoot was born in 1933, in Olanta, the son of the late John and Margaret (Olexy) Grice.

He was raised in very humble surroundings on the family homestead in Olanta. Being raised only by his mother, he learned the value of a dollar and to appreciate the rewards of hard work. Scoot began his working career at the tender age of 12 at his Uncle Tom's gas station located on 3rd Street in Clearfield. Scoot held the highest regards to his Uncle and attributes his good business practices to lessons learned from Uncle Tom.

After graduating from Clearfield High Vo-Tech Electrical School in 1952, Scoot was working over 80 hours a week between the gas station and the Harbison Walker Brickyard. In early 1953, he was drafted to serve his country and spent two years with the Medical Corps with the United States Army. During his service, Scoot would make numerous trips home to see his high school sweetheart, Janet Bailor, and would marry her on July 11, 1953. They have been married for 72 years. After attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was discharged from the Army in 1955.

Scoot was the founder of Grice Gun Shop and the Grice Car Museum, both in downtown Clearfield. Outside of guns and cars, Scoot enjoyed prairie dog hunting in South Dakota, where he acquired the nickname of 'Chief Flying Dog'. He also enjoyed flying airplanes, having attaining his pilot's license during semi-retirement.

Scoot is survived by his wife of 72 years, Janet of Clearfield; one son, Tom Grice and wife Brenda of Clearfield; two grandchildren, Dustin Grice, and Sierra Danver and husband Tyler; two great grandchildren, Caliahna and Cody; and two sisters, Marie DelPrato and Helen Backhus.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Bertie Imler.

A funeral service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home & Crematory, Clearfield on Friday at 11 AM with Pastor Scott Schultz officiating. Entombment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.

Visitation will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home & Crematory, Clearfield on Thursday from 4-7 PM and on Friday from 10-11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st Street, Clearfield, PA 16830; or to the charity of donor's choice.

I never knew Scoot very well until his later years. His uncle Enoch would have been my grandfather. I had the pleasure of taking care of him as an older gentleman. He was always interested in talking about the family and had a never ending supply of stories to tell. I enjoyed getting to know him and his wife. My condolences on his death. Mary Ann(Harper)Condon
