Dr. Lynn Wayman Holder, age 89, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in
Green Bay, WI.
Lynn was born February 24th, 1935, to Lynn and Mary (Wayman) Holder in
Murphysboro, IL. Lynn graduated from Carbondale Community High School, class of 1953. He excelled in football, basketball, and track, being selected as All Conference and All State for each discipline. Lynn also played collegiate basketball for Southern Illinois University for several years, being coached by his father as a freshman.
Lynn's undergraduate education was completed at Southern Illinois University where he graduated with a BS in Zoology. Post-graduate, he attended University of Illinois - Chicago, where he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1961.
On July 15th, 1963, Lynn married Judith Ann Zagrodnik of
Manitowoc, WI, whom he met in Chicago while he was attending medical school, and she was performing Nursing School training at Cook County Hospital. In 2023 they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Lynn was inducted into the United States Army Medical Corp in 1966, where he served through 1968, supporting soldiers returning from the Vietnam War. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1968 he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his exemplary service record.
Post-Army service, Lynn and Judith moved to
Manitowoc, WI, where he entered private medical practice, being partnered into Park Medical Center. Lynn and Judith had seven children; 5 boys and 2 girls, along with 13 grandchildren, all of whom Lynn was exceptionally proud of. While Lynn greatly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in athletic competitions, his greatest joy was seeing them succeed academically and professionally.
Lynn was an avid outdoorsman his entire life, enjoying fishing and hunting in particular. He took great pride in teaching outdoor skills to his sons and grandsons and spent many quality hours with them in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Lynn was able to travel to Africa several times to pursue large plains game and would gladly and enthusiastically detail his hunting adventures to anyone showing interest. His enjoyment of hunting and the outdoors were the foundation of many life-long friends with whom he adventured across the country.
Survivors include: his wife Judith (Zagrodnik) Holder of Manitowoc. Four sons and four daughters-in-law: Jeffrey (Jean) Holder, Scott (Trissy) Holder, Dr. Christopher (Deanna) Holder, Dr. Eric (Dr. Suzanne) Holder. Two daughters and one-son-in-law: Marya Roffers, Jennifer (Daniel) Siehr. Thirteen Grandchildren: Dr. Ian Holder, Seth Holder, Alex Holder, Andrea Holder, Gillian Holder, Samuel Roffers, Nicholas Roffers, Payton Siehr, Cole Siehr, Cade Holder, Kory Holder, Ryan Holder, and Jacob Holder. Three Brothers and two sisters-in-law: Dr. Barrett (Victoria) Holder, Dr. Mark (Eleni) Holder, and Judd Holder. Lynn is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents; Lynn and Mary Holder and son; Stephen J. Holder.
Cremation services were provided by All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi, formerly known as Holy Innocents Catholic Church, 1121 N. 14th St, Manitowoc WI 54220 at 11 AM on Saturday, July 13th, 2024. Internment will occur immediately after the church service at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc where graveside military rites will be accorded by AMVETS Post 99.
The Holder family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi - Holy Innocents Church 10 AM to 11 AM the day of service.
