Dr. Lynn Wayman Holder, age 89, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay, WI.
Lynn was born February 24th, 1935, to Lynn and Mary (Wayman) Holder in Murphysboro, IL. Lynn graduated from Carbondale Community High School, class of 1953. He excelled in football, basketball, and track, being selected as All Conference and All State for each discipline. Lynn also played collegiate basketball for Southern Illinois University for several years, being coached by his father as a freshman.
Lynn's undergraduate education was completed at Southern Illinois University where he graduated with a BS in Zoology. Post-graduate, he attended University of Illinois - Chicago, where he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1961.
On July 15th, 1963, Lynn married Judith Ann Zagrodnik of Manitowoc, WI, whom he met in Chicago while he was attending medical school, and she was performing Nursing School training at Cook County Hospital. In 2023 they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Lynn was inducted into the United States Army Medical Corp in 1966, where he served through 1968, supporting soldiers returning from the Vietnam War. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1968 he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his exemplary service record.
Post-Army service, Lynn and Judith moved to Manitowoc, WI, where he entered private medical practice, being partnered into Park Medical Center. Lynn and Judith had seven children; 5 boys and 2 girls, along with 13 grandchildren, all of whom Lynn was exceptionally proud of. While Lynn greatly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in athletic competitions, his greatest joy was seeing them succeed academically and professionally.
Lynn was an avid outdoorsman his entire life, enjoying fishing and hunting in particular. He took great pride in teaching outdoor skills to his sons and grandsons and spent many quality hours with them in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Lynn was able to travel to Africa several times to pursue large plains game and would gladly and enthusiastically detail his hunting adventures to anyone showing interest. His enjoyment of hunting and the outdoors were the foundation of many life-long friends with whom he adventured across the country.
