Lynn Malec Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shimon Funeral Home on Feb. 19, 2026.
Dr. Lynn M. Malec, MD, MSc

Dr. Lynn M. Malec-beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and physician-scientist-passed away unexpectedly at age 46.
She lived with extraordinary heart, curiosity, and purpose, leaving a profound and lasting imprint on her family, friends, colleagues, and the many patients whose lives she touched.

Lynn was born on July 9, 1979, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Michael and JoAnn Malec. A proud Wisconsinite, she attended the University of Wisconsin for undergrad and medical school, where her lifelong love of learning, service, and adventure took root and set her on the path to make impact in the field of medicine.
She went on to devote her career to caring for children and adults with bleeding disorders, becoming a nationally respected physician, researcher, and mentor. Lynn served as Program Director and Senior Medical Director of the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders and the Versiti Medical Sciences Institute, and as Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

She was known for advancing new therapies, expanding access to care, and championing a compassionate, family-centered approach for people living with complex bleeding conditions. She also mentored countless physicians and colleagues, shaping the next generation of leaders in her field.
Beyond her professional life, Lynn embraced the world with wonder and joy. She was an enthusiastic traveler who explored widely and believed deeply in the beauty of connecting with people around the world. Nothing brought her more happiness than sharing those experiences with her daughters-opening their eyes to new places, cultures, and possibilities, and creating family adventures that will live in their hearts forever.
A lifelong lover of basketball and a fierce advocate for youth and women's sports, Lynn championed confidence and opportunity for young athletes wherever she could. She was also a joyful karaoke enthusiast who delighted in gathering friends, family and colleagues, laughing loudly, and celebrating life's moments both big and small.
To her family, Lynn was everything: a dedicated and loving wife to her husband, David Brown; an extraordinary and endlessly proud mother to her cherished daughters, Estelle and Genevieve Brown; a deeply devoted daughter to Michael and JoAnn Malec; and a loving, steadfast sister to Elizabeth Saha. She was an empowering friend, generous mentor, and source of strength and encouragement to so many.
Lynn is survived by her husband, David; her daughters, Estelle and Genevieve; her parents, Michael and JoAnn; her sister, Elizabeth; and a wide circle of extended family, dear friends, colleagues, and grateful patients. Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely, the lives she uplifted, and the hope she brought to families and communities.
