Lynn Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home on Mar. 9, 2026.
Lynn Gordon Thompson passed on to glory late on Saturday at the age of 74.

He is survived by his faithful wife and best friend Annette, and children Brian (Faithanne), Misty, Ben (Katy), Bonnie (Christopher), grandchildren Tucker, Bryson, Naomi, Calleigh, Maggie, Mattie James, Stuart, Sam and Clara, sister Polly (Buddy), brother Dale (Ann) and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded by his father Gordon, mother Ruby, sister Theresa, brothers Tommy and Phillip, and son Timmy.

Lynn was born in Rome and moved to LaFayette with his family as a child. He grew up in the Linwood community where his childhood adventures and exploits are legion.

His first job as a teenager was with the Depot Cash Store on Chattanooga St. He worked briefly at Barwick Mills and then for Thurston Motor Lines where he started his career in LTL trucking.

He first worked the docks then as a driver over the road and in Chattanooga. He worked his way up to terminal manager. He served in operations and sales leadership for many years for Thurston, Spartan, Overnite, UFS Dugan, Wilson, Averitt, Conway and XPO. Near the end of his career he returned to driving (what he loved best!). He retired training drivers and as a safety director.

He served as Cub Scout den leader for several years, helped with Toys for Tots and was a friend to everyone he met.

Lynn was a dedicated, loving husband, loving father and great provider. A "Mr. Fix-it" and DIY expert in home repair, construction and auto.

He will be deeply missed by his friends and family who have peace that he gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be held at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 with the funeral service to be held at LaFayette First Baptist on Wednesday at 2:00 (visitation at 1:00). Graveside will be held at LaFayette City Cemetery thereafter.

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21
