Dr. Lynn Brown Wampler, 83, of
Starkville, Mississippi died on Friday, December 5th,
2025 at Montgomery Gardens Assisted Living, surrounded by her family, friends, and caregivers.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Welch Funeral Home in
Starkville, MS to be immediately followed by a graveside service at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery on Oktoc Road.
Lynn was born on February 18, 1942 to the late SN and Erline Brown in Belzoni, Mississippi.
She is preceded in death by her parents and by her sweet granddaughter, Olivia Lior,
whom she cherished and whom she is now holding and getting much missed play time with.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Angie) Wampler of Cumming, GA, Steve (Stephanie) Wampler of Maggie Valley, NC, and Travis (Kerri) Wampler of Tupelo, MS; granddaughter, Hailey, and grandsons, Harrison, Andrew, and Adam; and brother Dr. Steven Brown.
Dr. Wampler's lifelong passion was learning and teaching. Born to a family of educators, she graduated as valedictorian from Belzoni High School (1959) and received her bachelor's degree in Math at Mississippi State College for Women (1963). She later earned her master's in Computer Science and a PhD in Technology and Education from Mississippi State University. She spent most of her career as a computer specialist for the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service and as a part-time professor in the Department of Technology and Education at Mississippi State.
Lynn was a member of First United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Starkville. Over the years she taught youth Sunday School, volunteered as a local election poll worker, served on the Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission, and helped Hurricane Katrina refugees re-connect with missing loved ones.
Lynn will be remembered as a loving and protective mother and grandmother, a loyal and supportive friend, and a nurturer and companion to the many rescue dogs she took under her care. She also loved crocheting blankets and hats for the babies of her friends, playing bridge with her buddies, eating fried catfish at Little Dooey's, and having crayon coloring sessions with her friends on tough days.
The family would like to thank the staff, caregivers, and residents of Montgomery Gardens Assisted Living who loved and cared for her and supported the family for the last 2.5 years. The family is also profoundly grateful to Gentiva Hospice for their kind and gentle care all the way to the end.
