Lynne Howze Obituary

Lynne A. Howze (nee Fields)

January 10, 1947 - December 1, 2025

Lynne A. Howze, of Atlantic City, was born on January 10, 1947, in Atlantic City, NJ. She was the fourth of five children born to the late Florence Elizabeth Fields (nee Turner) and John Fields. Lynne loved her brothers and sisters dearly. She cherished her nieces and nephews as if they were her own and always looked out for them with the special love that only she could give.

She attended Atlantic City High School, graduating in 1965, where she was voted "Most Popular" by her class. During high school, she joined a local singing group called "The Debs," who later recorded the single "I'm Gonna Miss You." After high school, Lynne worked for the Atlantic City Friends School and later for Bell Telephone. She eventually moved to Washington, D.C., before returning to Atlantic City in 1975. Lynne dedicated many years to the Atlantic City Recreation Department as a part-time recreation attendant and later worked at Schiff-Charney/Toshiba Data Solutions until her retirement in 2015. After retiring, she continued serving the community and began working part-time for the City of Atlantic City as a school crossing guard.

In 1975, Lynne began attending Second Baptist Church, was baptized on January 1, 1978, and went on to join the Inspirational Choral Ensemble.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamont Howze, and her siblings Margaret (Mit), Lucy (Dolly), and James (Brother).

She is survived by her devoted son, Charles (Chucky) Brathwaite; her grandson, Yasir Brathwaite; nieces Mia Williams and Patsy Lynn; nephews, Mark and Bruce Williams; great-nephews, Mark and Isaih Toulson, Michael and Tigh Williams; and best friends Linda Jenkins, Gale Seabrook, and Frieda Stanley.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2025, at Second Baptist Church, 110 Rev. Dr. I.S. Cole Plaza, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10 a.m. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township.
