Lyonel Louis Lumarque

Lyonel Louis Lumarque was born on August 25, 1968 in Port au Prince, Haiti to Rosemarie Lumarque (Saint-Phard) and Jean Alexandre. As a child Lyonel was vibrant and enjoyed the outdoors. One of his favorite pastimes was climbing mango trees. At age 14, his family moved to the United States. Lyonel attended Canarsie High School in Brooklyn, New York and graduated at age 16. He then attended Devry University for a couple of years before enlisting in the Army. He served for four years of active duty and then spent another four years in the reserves.

In 1995, Lyonel married Sandra Matsusaka and soon, three beautiful children were born from their union: Dorian, Nickolas and Alana. The marriage ended and Lyonel eventually relocated to Miami, Florida. Although life circumstances created distance between Lyonel and his children for a period of time, his love for them never wavered.

Lyonel was optimistic about having the opportunity to reconnect with his children and he took pride in all of their accomplishments and milestones. He was especially excited about becoming a grandfather. Bragging about his children and grandchild gave him an incredible sense of joy.

In addition to his children, Lyonel adored his mother, Rosemarie, and his brothers, Ludwig (Socrates) and Patrice, as well as his extended family. He took advantage of every opportunity to attend family events and always showed up with his signature smile and a warm, welcoming hug.

Through the years, Lyonel developed a love for health and fitness. He founded LyonStrong Training Systems in 2012 and focused on helping people workout, while naturally restoring their bodies without the need for surgery, physical therapy, etc. Training people was more than a hobby to Lyonel- it was a passion and a way of changing lives and transforming clients from the inside out. He touched countless lives and was a true advocate for healthy living.

A few years before his passing, Lyonel met the love of his life, Darling Garcia. Together, they lived life to the fullest and brought light and joy into each other's worlds.

Lyonel had a special love for motorcycles and rode his bikes every chance he could get. He also had a strong admiration for his beloved dog, Nala. Though Lyonel exited this life suddenly and unexpectedly, he lived unapologetically on his terms. He had no regrets and made sure to stay true to himself, no matter what life threw at him. He left his mark on his family, friends and his community and his physical presence will be sorely missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.

Lyonel is survived by his children: Dorian Lumarque, Nickolas Lumarque and Alana Lumarque; his granddaughter, Capri; his mother Rosemarie Saint-Phard; his brothers: Patrice Lumarque and Ludwig Saint-Phard (wife: Rachel Saint-Phard); his nephew, Jude Saint-Phard; his life partner, Darling Garcia; and a large, loving extended family that includes aunts, uncles, cousins and several friends and loved ones.
