Mabel Hunt, age 98, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2023, in Lincolnton, NC. Born May 15, 1925, in Shelby, North Carolina, to the late Summey and Marie Spangler, Mabel was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Alan Hunt (wife Mary) of Brevard, NC, Fran Boling (husband Carter) of Denver, NC, and Charlie Hunt (wife Dawn) of Kannapolis, NC. Mabel was also blessed with grandchildren: Dawn Webb (husband Wayne) of Rock Hill, SC, Robert Reed (wife Ivonne) of Cornelius, NC, Don Boling (wife Michelle) of Cottonwood Heights, UT, David Boling of Charlotte, NC, Army Spc Alan Bryan Hunt of California, Adrienne Hunt of FL, and Maggie Goldthrite of Clover, SC. Mabel also had 8 great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Mabel was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Herbert Hunt, who shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories together.
Mabel received her education at Shelby High School and went on to graduate from Gardner Webb Jr. College where she majored in business and minored in music. She had a passion for music and was a talented pianist. Mabel found great joy in sharing her musical talents with others.
A woman of faith, Mabel has been an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Atlanta where she assisted in relocating refugees from Miami to Atlanta providing the family with a furnished home and jobs. She was the pianist at the church as well. After relocating to Charlotte, Mabel was involved in Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and was dedicated to various youth groups, serving as the Director of the Special Education Department. Mabel loved service as a camp counselor at Camp Ridgecrest even into her 70's. She taught crafts to seniors at Camp Caswell in the summer. Mabel's commitment to her faith extended to her involvement in the JOY seniors group at Denver United Methodist Church.
In her leisure time, Mabel enjoyed playing the piano, engaging in card games, and indulging in crafts and puzzles. These hobbies brought her both relaxation and a sense of fulfillment.
Mabel Hunt will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire and guide future generations.
Mabel had a passion for helping with Special Needs people. She served as Director of Special Education Sunday School at Pritchard Memorial Baptist church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camp Joy (www.CampJoySC.com) in memory of Mabel Hunt. Donations can be mailed to Camp Joy SC at 540 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC 2916. Camp Joy is a Christian summer camp for special needs older teens and young adults.
Services will be private.
