Mabel "Jenny" Margaret Nestle Spach, 86, of Greenwood, widow of Elmer Leonard Spach, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, at her home.
Born in Sidney, MI, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Carl Nestle and Sarah Tow Nestle. Mabel was a retired correctional officer with the State of Michigan and attended North Side Baptist Church in
Greenwood, SC.
She preceded in death by sons, Daniel Ray Spach and Shane Leonard Spach; and siblings, Joyce Morgan, Sally Rawley, Rosemary Feyan, Benjamin Nestle and William Nestle.
Surviving are her daughters, Brenda Lee Spach and Danette Caroline Gannon; son-in-law, Shawn Gannon; grandchildren, Seth Edward Spach, Luke Thomas Spach, Charity Margaret Schwegman (RJ), Jennifer Jean Ringle and Jessica Lee Konopka (Eric), Silas Leonard Spach, Sarah Leah Waidelich and Shelby Rae Spach; daughter-in-law, Pam Spach; sisters-in-law, Betty Nestle, Norma Nestle and Janet Warthman; eleven great grandchildren; and best friends, Drew, Mary Jo & Jeff Sayers, Shirley Dukes and her late husband, Ron Dukes.
Mabel was very caring and compassionate! Her real name was Mabel Spach, but everyone referred to her as "Jenny". She provided daycare for years to many working families in Crystal, Michigan until she decided to go to the Community College to get a degree as a Correction's Officer. She worked in the prison system in Ionia and then Carson City, until retirement.
Jenny was an excellent seamstress, busy sewing clothes for the family and doing alterations for others as needed. She stayed busy assisting with 4-H, teaching Sunday school and staying active in the Crystal Congregational Church. She would get the family dresses and off they would go to Sunday school and then would stay for church. Every Sunday Jenny would look forward to the big family Sunday dinner. She loved teaching her girls many things such as how to read patterns, sewing and cooking, but never seemed anyone could come close to her cooking. Gardening and canning was a must years ago; Jenny and her mother would had a huge garden and would can all the vegetables and fruits down in their basement when she was a young girl. Of course, everyone in the family would be taken along and would be given information on how to can. It was not all instruction, as all of the children played outside while the canning process was transpiring. Going to pick blueberries was a fun event for everyone, seemed that the children would eat more than they would pick. Jenny really loved working in her flowers and yard, and continued to do so after the family relocated to
Greenwood, SC. She loved going camping and snowmobiling with her husband, brother and sister-in-law, as well as their dear friends.
One of her pleasures was going to Bass Lake, in Michigan, listening to a live band and dancing with her husband. After moving to Greenwood, her grandson, Luke and daughter Brenda would take her places to listen to music to bring back some of those cherished memories. Our main mode of transportation was the pontoon, as she loved going for boat rides. She loved attending the Senior Program in Greenwood getting up at 6 a.m. just to catch the bus.
The tears continue to come as we grieve of Jenny's passing, but we understand that she is in a better place, with the Lord above, her husband and brothers. We LOVE you mom and will miss you so much, but in time we will all be together again! Rest in Peace!
A celebration of life will be held in Crystal, Michigan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave.
