Gerald “Mack” Baker III, 68, of Sumter, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at his home.

Born on December 4, 1957, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Gerald McMaster “Jerry” Baker, Jr. and Miriam Longshore Gaddy. Mack was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College. He worked for Owens-Illinois, Georgia Pacific and operated a yard maintenance business for several years. He enjoyed taking pictures and previously recorded many weddings and revival services.

Mack was a devout Christian who had been actively involved with Faith Assembly of God. He was a genuine family man who adored his entire family.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Catherine L. Whitman Baker; a son, David Gerald Baker of Newberry; a daughter, Angel B. (Eric) Harmon of Newberry; a brother, Hank Baker of Sumter; his step-father, Robert B. Gaddy of Rembert; his mother-in-law, Coritta “Tip” Whitman of Newberry; grandchildren, Samantha (Nick) Barnes, Michael Baker, Dallas Baker, Drake Hamby, Gabriel Harmon and Danielle (James) Longshore and great-grandchildren, Brinley Carter Baker, Lilyann Grace Barnes, Leia Marie Barnes, Olivia Adaline Barnes, Knox Timothy Longshore and great-granddaughter due at anytime.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Faith Assembly of God by Rev. Warren Parker. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm at Faith Assembly of God.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.
