Madeleine Ann Carroll, 95, died at her home in Oklahoma City, OK, on November 8, 2023. Born on May 1, 1928, in Denver, Colorado, Madeleine was the daughter of Madeleine Redpath Fisher and R.E. Hibbert. One of five children, Madeleine was especially close to her sisters, Mary and Josephine. She developed a love for the mountains at a young age and spoke fondly of her childhood memories in the Rockies. Madeleine graduated from Denver's East High School in 1945. On June 23,1946, Madeleine married G.R. ("Bob") Carroll, her high school sweetheart, and the young couple lived together in Denver. It was in Denver that the young couple's four children, Bob Jr., Chris, Dick, and Scott, were born. Madeleine was often with her sisters during these years, and their children were constant playmates. In 1962, Madeleine and Bob left Denver to move to Fort Smith, AR and in1965, the family moved to Oklahoma City, which would remain their home for the next 50 years.
To everyone who knew her, Mad was larger than life, with an uncommonly warm heart and a childlike capacity for joy. No matter where she went, Mad never met a stranger. She had a true gift for connecting with people and because of that, she was always surrounded by friends for whom she cared deeply. She was also incredibly funny, with a sense of humor that favored the risqué. She loved to have a good time. When it came to her grandchildren, Mad was an endless source of love and support. She was also a gifted artist with a keen eye for composition. She often painted flowers in vibrant colors, giving her paintings the same joyful quality that was characteristic of Mad herself.
Madeleine died peacefully at home, surrounded by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Scott Carroll; her husband, Bob Carroll; her sisters, Josephine and Mary; and her daughter in law, Mari Carroll. She is survived by her three children, Bob Carroll Jr. (Linda), Chris Wager (Rich), and Dick Carroll (Mari); her daughter in law, Lynn Carroll; her grandchildren, Cari Carroll Greene, Christi Carroll Ridley, Tanner Carroll, Jessica McKee, Brooke Carroll Allen, Hollye Carroll, and Jacqulynn Carroll Wood; and twelve great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in Madeleine's honor may be made to Infant Crisis Services in Oklahoma City.
