Madeleine Oestreich Obituary

Madeleine Louise Land Oestreich, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the age of 95 years.

Madeleine was born February 18, 1930, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Harry Land and Hedwig Wilke Land. She married Allen Oestreich on February 21, 1950. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2017.

She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Joanne and Patrick Klaerner of Kyle, and Ginger and Michael Barr of Fredericksburg.

Survivors also include 5 grandchildren, Emily Klaerner and Kristin Hall, Austin Klaerner and wife Toni, Carry Oestreich Rumsey and husband Aaron, Brad Steiner and wife Cynthia, Joseph Barr, and 9 great-grandchildren. Madeleine is also survived by one sister, Lillian Hahn and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Madeleine was preceded in death by her son, Paul Oestreich; her granddaughter, Anna Barr, and brothers, Clifton Land and Raymond Land.

Madeleine's family remembers her as a woman of strength during difficult times. She always had positive kind words in the most challenging times and situations. Her smile and sweet spirit provided her family with reassurance. Madeleine enjoyed embroidery, making many items and would often give the completed work to others. She also enjoyed volunteering at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with children's activities and Hill Country Community Needs Council. Madeleine loved having family together, sharing a meal and having a good time. Madeleine and Allen were married for 67 years and lived in the house that was built when they married. They never moved or wanted to. Allen delighted in telling the story of seeing Madeleine at a dance and telling a friend, "That's my girl ... she just doesn't know it yet." At their 50th wedding anniversary, they danced beautifully to the Tennessee Waltz; that was their song.

Madeleine's family is grateful for the compassionate care of Dr. Michael Johnson, the entire staff at Knopp Nursing and Rehab #2, and Methodist Hospice.

On Monday, November 17, there was a visitation and reception from 10-11 a.m. at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with a Funeral Service at 11 a.m.

Pallbearers: Emily Klaerner, Austin Klaerner, Joseph Barr, Brad Steiner, Neil Bohnert, Robert Bohnert and Peter Nixon.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Madeleine's family encourages memorials be made to Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, Hill Country Community Needs Council, The Good Samaritan Center, or the Grace Center.
