Madeline Watson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 13, 2026.
Madeline "Matty" Lucille Watson, 82, of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late John "Jack" Girvan Watson Jr., with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.

Madeline began her career as a Registered Nurse after graduating from the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in Connecticut, where she served as president of her class. Together, Matty and Jack owned and operated the Northfield Rest Home in Northfield, Conn., lovingly caring for its ten residents as if they were members of their own family for more than two decades.

She was a proud and active supporter of the Blue Knights law enforcement motorcycle club and enjoyed riding her own motorcycle-often with her youngest son, Tom, seated behind her.

Madeline leaves behind her children, John G. Watson III and Thomas K. Watson, and his wife, Heather A. Watson. She was a devoted grandmother to John G. Watson IV, Angelo P. Watson, Kayleanah Hill, Leah Roach, Victoria L. Stephens (Watson) and her husband, Eric Stephens, Elisa C. Watson, her partner Joseph Johnston, and Catriona L. Watson. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Jordan G. Watson, Warren M. Watson, Rowen M. Watson, and twins Callahan D. Stephens and Ella A. Stephens.

She was predeceased by her sister, Annette R. Krenitsky. She is survived by Annette's husband, Paul Krenitsky; her sister, Pauline Breen; her brother, Dennis Monty, and his wife, Wendy; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends.

The Watson family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Masonic Home of Florida for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided.

A funeral Mass will be held at San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port, Fla., on March 5th, 2026, at 10am EST.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matty's memory to the Masonic Home of Florida, 3201 1st St. NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33704.
