Madge Winslett Obituary

Mrs. Madge Beard Winslett, age 88, of Rome, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Winslett was born in Rome, GA, on September 19, 1936, daughter of the late Willie George "W.G." Holcombe and the late Clastie Bailey Holcombe. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Setze "Bill" Beard, a son, William Gregory "Greg" Beard, a stepson, James Gregory Winslett, her great-grandson, Bentley Beard, and a brother, Steve Holcombe. Mrs. Winslett was a graduate of Pepperell High School. She began her working career at Southern Bell as a switchboard operator. Later Mrs. Winslett was employed at Georgia Power Company where she retired in 1992. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lindale after transferring her membership from Dykes Creek Baptist Church. While at Dykes Creek, she spent many years playing the piano and organ. In her younger years she was a member at Pleasant Hope Baptist Church where she played piano and sang in a quartet.

Music was a staple in Mrs. Winslett's life. She loved southern gospel music and had every Gaither video on VHS. Mrs. Winslett was a consummate beauty; always put together everywhere she went. She and her husband loved traveling and had cruised until they didn't want to cruise anymore. She loved gardening, antiquing, dogs, cats, and birds, but nothing meant more to Mrs. Winslett than her family. She loved family time above all else. Whether it was at the lake, reunions, family vacations, holidays (especially Christmas), or just a family dinner, she treasured every second. Mrs. Winslett battled until the end on this side of Heaven, but our hope comes in knowing she is now rejoicing in the presence of Jesus Christ for eternity.

Survivors include her loving husband, Colonel Ronald D. Winslett, U.S. Army Retired, Rome, to whom she was married on June 27, 1993; a daughter, Lynn Holloway (Tim), Armuchee; daughter-in-law, Lane Cooper Beard; 10 grandchildren, Matt Holloway (Ashley), Marcus Holloway (Anna), Jason Beard (Angela), Summer Gibbs (Dalton), Kandice Ware (Drew), Will Beard (Jaiden Liggons), Lexi Lents (Austin), Jen Bowers (Leon), Brittany Norton (Micah), and Breannah Glenn (Brandon), 12 great-grandchildren, Bowen Holloway, Baylor Holloway, Mac Holloway, Jaycee Beard, Branson Beard, Jameson Gibbs, Mason Gibbs, Ross Allen, Carson Allen, Carolina Ware, Beau Beard, and Charlie Lents; 3 step-children, Deborah Winslett Powell (Larry), Melinda Winslett Davis (Charles), and Jefferson Charles Winslett; nieces and nephews, several step-grand and great-grandchildren; a very special friend and neighbor at the Spires, Micki Langley.

Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Eric Whelchel officiating and her grandsons, Matt and Marcus Holloway, delivering the eulogy. Interment will take place at Pleasant Hope Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3:45pm on Thursday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Advent Health-Redmond 5th floor nursing staff, Jennifer and Janice with Tapestry Hospice, and The Spires friends and staff. Also, the Winslett's private sitters, Sissy and Robbie Mason, Marchial Smith, and Trish Milton who have become part of our family.
