Madia Haynes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Jan. 2, 2026.
Madie (Madia) Ann Reed Haynes left us joining her sister Hattie Marie Reed, and

parents George M. Reed Jr. and Augustine Hart Reed in repose. Madie was born

in Wharton, Texas September 14, 1952. She was named after our father's mother

Madia Reed, they are meeting for the first time. Madie and our family were

members of Primm Chapel AME church from the time we moved from Houston to

LaMarque and remained faithful members until death and illness prevented the

constant fellowship. Madie grew up in a loving home where our father dotted on

her. She graduated in the last class out of Lincoln High School and spent a few

semesters at College of the Mainland. In 1972 Madie was joined in wedlock to Otis

Van Haynes, Sr. Her only son, Otis Van Haynes Jr. was born to that union. Madie

had a fierce work ethic. She worked in childcare in Galveston before securing a

job at NASA. She was the recipient of many gifts from the astronauts when they

resided in the facility that she managed. She retired from NASA in January of

2025 after 34 years. A decision she said she regretted. Madie could be ornery and

always stated her mind but she had a heart of gold. She was generous and loved

her son and grandchildren to a fault. She always talked about the trips she and Jaz

made and the care and concern she had for "Trey and "Little Man"

She transitioned unexpectantly and her family is at a loss to why she is gone. But

we know that God's plans and thoughts are above ours therefore if He allowed this

then we praise him for the time we had with her in the earth realm. We shall see

her again. Madie Ann Reed Haynes is survived by her son, Otis Van Haynes, Jr

(Tomiekia), grandchildren Jazmyn Haynes, Otis Van Haynes, 111, TreVeon DeWitt

great granddaughter, Amora, sister Maxine Reed Vance (Billy), brother George

Reed Jr.,nephew George Reed, III, nieces Afra Vance and Lia Vance-Smith

(Mark) K'Reada Fravier special cousin Janice Scimmons and other great nieces

and great grand niece and nephew, Friends and other Family members grieve her

loss with the family.
