Mae Johnson, 99, formerly of Fort Worth, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in Abilene. Ms. Johnson was born April 28, 1908, in Powderly. She attended public school in Powderly and Fort Worth. She also attended business college and worked in an insurance office in Fort Worth for several years. In 1944, she joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Washington, D.C., for the duration of the war. Following the end of the war, Ms. Johnson returned to Fort Worth, where she worked for U.S. Army Depot as a civilian employee. She attended numerous finance and accounting schools and training programs while working for the federal government. She retired from the U.S. civil service in July 1970. Ms. Johnson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, painting and reading. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Evie Thompson; three sisters, Lillie Smith, Corine Love and Euletha Spears; and two brothers, Robert Thompson and Tommy Thompson.
