Mae T. Menchen, 77, passed away peacefully at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York on January 23, 2025 with her husband by her side. She was the daughter of Amelia Frances (Carpenter) and Herman Phillip Adler whom predeceased her along with her sister Barbara (Boots) Adler. On December 10, 1966, she married Gary Menchen, and together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage. They met at a cousins sweet sixteen party in 1962, and it was a love story ever since.
Mae worked as a candy striper and then patient transporter at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Tarrytown for several years and then transferred to St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers where was an EKG Tech, then working EEG’s & vascular as head of the department. She retired to Copake, designing a home on the lake. She enjoyed reading, crossword, sudoku puzzles, and boat rides with her husband Gary. Also, she treasured her Wednesday Bible meeting with her friends at the Corner Stone Fellowship Church in Valatie, New York.
Mae was always putting others first, was loved by and touched by everyone she met. Her grandsons, Ripley and Russell were the love of her life. She enjoyed Ripley’s accomplished singing voice and Russell's perfected piano playing along with attending his baseball & soccer sporting events.
Mae is survived by her husband, Gary, of Copake. Her daughter Denise Menchen Ballou and her husband Scott. Her son, Gregory Menchen, of Copake and her two grandsons, Ripley Ballou and Russell Ballou.
A time for sharing memories and offering condolences will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 8063 Route 22, Copake, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday from St. James Church, 117 Hudson Avenue, Chatham. Father Steve Matthews will officiate. Interment will take place in the spring in the West Copake Cemetery.
