What a legacy! Mae Packan was one of the very best teachers at Coventry High School, and she challenged all of her students to achieve more. Her love of learning inspired me to pursue higher education up to the graduate level. She will be remembered!

"Aunt Mae " was my "isms" ( capitalism, socialism, communism etc ) teacher in 1972, she was one of my favorites. I still think of her, she was one of the best and made learning something you wanted to do.

RIP Aunt Mae! We love you and we will miss you. But I know you were ready to move on. I wish you could have met Logan because I am certain you he would have asked you so many questions and I know you would have loved answering them. You were a great woman! You will forever be in our hearts.

Mrs. Packan was one of my two favorite teachers. I've always had so much respect for her. Never will forget the day she told our class we lived in the hinterland. She taught us a little of the real world beyond our conservative upbringing and Portage Lakes, and I often think of her in my travels.

Mrs. Packan was a Coventry legend. She challenged us to work hard and expand our thinking beyond our community borders. I remember slogging through homework assignments every night like outlining American Political Traditions or reading Mein Kampf. We hated it, but it made us appreciate American democracy. She was remarkable though in caring for all of her students and, if you saw her long after you graduated, she remembered you, your parents, and all of your brothers and sisters. Knowing a teacher remembered you like that was a valued validation of how much she cared for us as individuals.

One in a million for sure. It was a pleasure to reacquaint with this amazing teacher as an adult because it was only then that I had an inkling of what she was talking about back in 60-61 during those Coventry High School years. Yes - let´s dimply be kind to one another!

Mae Packan, Mother Mae to all of us, had a giant influence on my life. If you ask why, I will say in the words of Mother Mae, "There are many reasons." She taught me to look beyond the simple answer to the multiple causes of events. I´ll never forget outlining the entire book, "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich," all 1,249 pages for her history class. I kept my notes for years. She expected a lot of us, and I tried to live up to her expectations. I left "the hinterland," as she called where we lived, for California, and we exchanged Christmas cards for many years. She was the best teacher I ever had.

She was my HS government teacher and she was the hardest teacher and the best teacher I ever had at Coventry and Garfield where I transferred from when my family moved to Coventry school district. She was fair to all and expected each of us to do our best which she challenged us all. I don´t think I would have been successful in college had she not been my senior HS teacher. When I meet Miss Packan I thought she was mean, but she changed my life forever. I only wished I could have had her in every grade level. I would have learned so much from her. She helped me bring all my grades up to A's in every class during my senior year. I loved her very much. She could have taught teachers, how to teach even better.

I was blessed to be one of Mrs. Packan´s students. She shared more than the standard information for the class subject matter. She cared enough to expand our thoughts about looking beyond our small community and encouraged us to explore what the world had to offer. The community was blessed to have her educate our children. Until we meet again, I will continue to share your kindness.

I last talked with her when she was 99 and she was still sharp. She was my teacher in the old "college Prep." days at Coventry and Erwine schools.
She was a light in a pretty dim universe and I learned much from her which has served me well in life.
For some of us it takes years to see the gems which others plant in our consciousness.
Her candle has gone now but it still glows in thousands of us who she shared her wisdom with.
