EUNICE-It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maefine “Mae” Manuel Austin announces her passing on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Savoy Care Center in Mamou at the age of 91. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 21, 2025, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Dugas, Celebrant.
Maefine born on September 27, 1933, in Chataignier, was the beloved daughter of the late Littell and Dea Hebert Manuel. In the past, she worked at the old Ville Platte Hospital for thirty-five years. She also coached for girls’ softball, was a girl scout and cub scout leader, and loved to sew and bake. After retiring from the hospital, she would babysit children, whom she loved as her own. Mae was also a member of the Ladies Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and a volunteer of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Mae will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her children, Ronda Ann Delatte and companion, Davis Delafosse of Reddell, and James Kent Thompson of Eunice; brother, Bobby Ray Manuel of Eunice; sister, Emma Rae Vidrine of Ville Platte; five grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, James Rossy Manuel, Marsha Blood, Miranda Thompson, and Destini Thompson; eleven great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and one on the way; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Delward Thompson and Horace J. Austin; her son, Daniel Craig Thompson; her parents; brother, Roland Manuel; sister, Janell Thibodeaux; and grandchildren, Dustin Chase Thompson and Shawn Christopher Manuel.
