Mahala E. Collier, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on September 29, 1948, Mahala lived a life filled with love, service, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Mahala’s journey began in Augusta, Georgia, where she graduated in the Class of 1966 from Lucy C. Laney High School, setting a foundation for a lifetime of learning and growth. Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to serving others, she obtained her Associates Degree from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Services in 2000. For 26 fulfilling years, Mahala worked as an X-Ray Technician at University Hospital, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patients alike until her retirement in 2002.

An active member of the Alpha and Omega Church of Jesus Christ, Mahala was known for her bright smile and welcoming spirit. She accepted every task with grace, embodying the essence of kindness and helping hands. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her interactions with everyone blessed to know her.

Mahala's legacy will continue to shine through her beloved family, including her two daughters, Chelsea McCullough and LaShawnda (Eric) Hall. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy: Johnathan Dunton, Xavier McCullough, Quintavious Hall, Javonte' Hall, Jasmine Hall, and De'Montrez Hall. They were the light of her life, and she took immense delight in being a supportive matriarch, cheering them on in their many accomplishments.

Mahala also valued the deep connections she forged with her friends, notably her devoted companions Patricia Johnson, Audrey Lee, Sharon James, and her beloved cousin Earneidel Orston-Prince. These friendships enriched her life and highlighted her generosity, laughter, and wisdom. She often regarded her friends as family—a sentiment that truly reflected her loving nature.

She now joins her late husband, Henri Collier, and her granddaughter, Kourtney McCullough, in eternal rest. Mahala is also preceded in death by her father, James L. Harmon, and her mother, Mary Burton Campbell. Additionally, she was mourned by her devoted friend, Harry B. James, who alongside her family and friends, will carry forward the beautiful memories they created together.

Mahala E. Collier will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for her selflessness, warmth, and the light she brought into the lives of those around her. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta. Her funeral service will take place the following day, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM, also at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, followed by her interment at Walker Memorial Park at 12:15 PM.

The world is a kinder place for having had Mahala among us, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who loved her.
