Mahendra Singh Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Asian Indian Funeral Service The Hindu Funeral Home from Dec. 18 to Dec. 24, 2025.
Dr. Mahendra Pal Singh, age 95, of Westfield, New Jersey, formerly a longtime resident of Newton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dr. Singh was a man of extraordinary intellect, gratitude, kindness, and quiet strength. Soft-spoken and gentle, he carried a peaceful presence that comforted everyone around him. Brilliant yet humble, his intelligence revealed itself through wisdom, curiosity, and a deep consideration for others.
Born and raised in a small village in Uttar Pradesh, India, Dr. Singh's early life was shaped by discipline, determination, and an unshakable commitment to education. From a young age, he studied by candlelight and earned academic distinctions. His intellect and perseverance allowed him to soar to heights far beyond what might have been imagined from his modest beginnings.
In the 1950s, he courageously immigrated to the United States to pursue his education, earning a PhD in Physics. He went on to build a distinguished and illustrious career, contributing to pioneering work in optical fiber technology and the development of compact disc (CD) technology. A true trailblazer, he was a self-made man and the embodiment of the American dream-achieving success through education and personal drive.
Yet beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Singh's greatest legacy was the person he was. He was level-headed, patient, and deeply thoughtful. He lived with gratitude and grace, remaining calm and peaceful through all of life's moments.
Above all, he would do anything to help his wife and children, placing their happiness and well-being above all else. His love for his wife of 63 years, Krishna Singh, was profound and unwavering. He cared for her devotedly through her final days, a testament to a marriage rooted in deep respect, tenderness, and lifelong partnership. Together, they touched many lives through their warmth and example.
Dr. Singh was a role model for his family and a guiding compass-someone whose intelligence, integrity, and kindness shaped generations. He believed deeply in lifelong learning and led by example, leaving behind a legacy of educational pursuit, dignity, peace, and compassion. He made excellence feel natural and left people better than he found them.
He is survived by his children: son Sunil Singh and his wife Radhika; daughter Arti Singh and her husband Craig; and daughter Anita Singh and her husband Jay; as well as his grandchildren Rajan, Nikhil, Ajay, and Sonia, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Krishna Singh.
Dr. Mahendra Pal Singh will be deeply missed and forever cherished. His wisdom, peaceful spirit, and loving guidance will live on in all who were fortunate to know him.
Funeral services for Mahendra Singh will take place Tuesday, December 23, 2025 from 9:30am-11:30am at Franklin Memorial Park. Franklin Memorial Park is located at 1800 Route 27 in North Brunswick, NJ.
