I just learned of the passing of my best friend on Azalea Drive from the time Duane and I were 6 years old until I moved from Charlottesville at age 14. We played countless games of football and baseball, explored the woods and streams around Azalea Park and Morse Creek, and spent thousands of hours together. He was a great friend who, even at such a young age, would stand by you through thick and thin. Although the years slipped by and we hadn't seen one another since I visited him while he was in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, I'll always remember him as a great friend who made life so much fun during those early years. I am so sorry for your loss Mrs. McCauley, Paula and Pam. R.I.P. Malcolm Duane McCauley......

I was so sorry to hear about Duane's passing. We had some great memories whether it was as neighborhood kids, schools friends or church members. We had not seen each other in many years but I did think of him fondly. My family's prayers are with you all.

Laverne, Pam, and Paula

I would like to express my sincere condolences to all in the passing of Duane, I have known Duane since we were in grade school together and while throughout the years we would pass in and out of each other's lives I can honestly say he was one of my oldest and dearest friends. We shared a lot of great times together!
The poem that he authored, coupled with the song he requested his niece to sing at his wake speaks volumes to the man. He suffered for so long with the tragedy of losing his soul mate (Ginger) along with the disease that ravaged his body seems too much for any human to bear- but he did so without complaint.
I believe that he has now sitting on the” highest” mountain, free of the burdens and hardships he suffered on this earth ,basking in the light of our Lord.
May God bless the McCauley family.

We can only say that God blessed us when he brought Duane into our lives. He was one of the most generous, caring people this world has ever seen and we will miss him terribly. He was a true freind and we know he will be waiting in heaven. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his mother and family.

Lavern, Pam and Paula - My heart is heavy with this news. Duane was a dear friend of mine in high school. After school, we would talk on the phone for hours. We had a party line (remember those?) and my neighbors used to pick up the phone and say "OK Lauren, you and Duane have been talking long enough!"
I remember when we had dinner at your house before prom. It was delicious, but Duane waited until afterwards to tell the girls it was venison. He was afraid we would be upset if we knew we were "eating Bambi!"
He was a wonderful person, and I'm sorry we lost touch. Your family is in my prayers.
