Manuel Joseph "Joe" Ayers

 

Mr. Manuel Joseph “Joe” Ayers, 93, of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Ayers was born in Carroll County Virginia to the late Rufus Emanuel and Savada Emaline Ayers.  He retired from Mt. Airy Furniture Company after many years of employment.  Mr. Ayers proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  He is survived by a daughter, Marla Ayers; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Marshall; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Adele Ayers; sisters, Amy Zettie Ayers Guynn, Ollie Ayers, Lucy Mae Ayers, Julia June Ayers Guynn; brothers, Victor Ernest Ayers, Rufus Junior Ayers.  A graveside service will be held Monday, August 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Cana Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Vass officiating and military honors conducted by VFW Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cana Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 64 Leonhardt Dr., Cana, VA 24317.  The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice home for the love and care given to Joe.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
