Marc Burdick Obituary
California native and Florida resident Marc V. Burdick, 71, passed away early Monday morning on November 25, 2024, in Milton, Florida.
Marc was born September 5, 1953, to Harold "Hal" and Mary (née Sudar) Burdick in Santa Cruz, California. Hal founded Burdick's TV and Appliance Repair, a popular store that prospered tremendously in the mid-to-late 1900s electronics era. Mary was a homemaker, rearing her children and refining her culinary skills, leading to a beloved family cookbook.
Marc was a dedicated worker; at 15, he was a delivery person for his father's business. Upon completing high school and earning an associate's degree at Long Beach City College, Marc returned to his father's business and worked as an electronics repairman. This job would be a springboard for Marc's career, as he spent nearly 25 years as an electronics repairman, whether completing work as an independent tradesman or owning his own business for over a decade. Marc would also become certified as an appliance repair technician, eventually working for Sears and Pensacola Christian College later in his career.
While never one for traditional hobbies, Marc was constantly tinkering around the house. He was gifted in techne, the ancient Greek idea of practical knowledge. There were few things he couldn't do around the house, although some tasks involved overly creative solutions. Marc would often work in his backyard buildings, raise chickens, plant a garden, or care for his dogs, Murphy, Reba, and Biscuit.
The most important thing for Marc was spending time with his family. This was especially true for his grandchildren, whom he constantly taught through various examples and projects. He also continued to aid in home repair projects with his adult children.
Marc is survived by his wife Debby; sons Joshua, Jacob, and Josiah; daughters Hannah and Esther; and several grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers James, John, Dale, and Joe; his sister Teresa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal and Mary Burdick, and his brother, Wayne Burdick.
