Swan Lake, NY
Marc Lerner, a longtime resident of Swan Lake, NY, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025 at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown NY. He was 99 years old. The son of Harry (Hershel) and Selina (Sarah) Hauslinger Lerner, Marc was born on January 22, 1926 in Porto Alegre, Brazil
They made their way from Brazil to New Jersey, then to Brooklyn and finally to White Lake where he met the love of his life, Goldie Furman. They married just a few months later and started a family. Soon after, they moved to their forever home at Furman's Corner in Swan Lake. He founded several companies including Fountain Pools, GoldMarc Industries and Quickway Metal Fabricators, Inc. Each company specialized in one of his unique developments or patented inventions for steel swimming pools and pool filters, wood and coal stoves, intermodal shipping containers, steel bridges, and space-frame structure buildings.
Marc was guided by a belief in self-determination, self-reliance, and giving back. He took nothing for granted and worked to rebuild, repurpose, re-use and never waste. He was the original "Figure it out or invent a better way" guy. Past president of Congregation Temple Beth-El in Kauneonga Lake and longtime member of the Bethel Lyons and Shriners, he gave back in so many ways but never wanted to be in the spotlight. And though he rarely mentioned his military service, he was a photographer and cartographer documenting WWII in the Pacific theater.
Marc is survived by his son, Jerrold and his wife Jaye Nydick, daughter, Barbara Lerner and her companion William Fersch, 4 grandchildren, Joe (Samantha), Jacob (Shannon Cilento), Max (Claire) and Claire, and 3 great grandchildren.
Marc was predeceased by his loving wife, Goldie, his son, Steven, his brothers, Louis and Jack and his sister Bella
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 10:30am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701. Interment will immediately follow at the Temple Beth El Cemetery, Route 17B, Bethel, NY.
Memorial contributions in Marc's may be made to Temple Beth-El or the charity of one's choice
