Marc Richard Litt, age 67, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, August 10th, surrounded by his loved ones, after a five year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ("ALS" or Lou Gehrig's disease).
Marc was born on March 21, 1957 to Sol and Muriel Litt. He raised in Dayton, Ohio and attended Denison University. He earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and did his internal medicine residency and fellowship in cardiology at Johns Hopkins University. In 1986, Marc married Sheri, and together they raised their sons, Alex (36) and Michael (34). He was an accomplished Interventional Cardiologist at Jacksonville Heart Group/Baptist Health for 30+ years in Jacksonville and was well known for his brilliant mind and for the compassion he showed his patients. Outside of the hospital, he could be found hiking in the national parks, traveling, attending Jaguars games, going to concerts, painting landscapes, and reading history books. He was a true Renaissance man.
Marc is survived by his wife, Sheri, his sons, Alex and Michael, his daughters-in-law, Sarah and Christy, his sisters, Karen Litt Lippes and Rori Litt Stevens, and his grandchildren, Jay, Eli, and Leia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Muriel.
A ceremony will be conducted graveside on Tuesday, August 13 at 10 a.m. at Ponte Vedra Valley. The ceremony is open to all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), in memory of Marc Litt - 100 Holes.
The family wishes to extend their immense gratitude to his team of caregivers - Alla, Dino, Marlos, Gloria, and Sandra - who were with him until the end.

My name is Stewart Townsend. Dr. Litt was my cardiologist for 30 years. He always took good care of me. I could always talk to him in his office or on the phone. He told me about his diagnosis soon after he knew. The usual heart tests didn´t work for me, so he said he would depend on what I told him. One day in his office I asked him what he thought my prognosis was. He said he had a patient that he had treated for many years, and suddenly died, but it was not related to his heart. So the answer to my question was that we can´t always predict our life going forward. That conversation was so poingent when I later thought about it. I will always be grateful for Dr. Litt. I know his family has suffered much grief. We are never ready to lose a loved one. But his life mattered, and many people lived longer because of him. He will be missed!

Dr. Litt was more than just a physician. He always liked to joke with me that I was in good shape for an old lady, but when the time came, he was going to do the surgery I would need. He was amazing, he would yell hello across the parking garage! I don't know another physician that speaks to you like that outside of the office. It was always a pleasure to have an appointment with him. Even from his wheelchair on Telehealth appointments, he was the best. He is greatly missed.

Dr. Litt got me as an Emergency patient when I had a heart attack May of 2013. I will be forever thankful for his medical ability and his Great Patient care. I always knew he would be honest with me about my heart issues but he did it in such a professional way. God Bless Dr. Litt and may he Rest in Peace. He will be missed but I'm sure he has left this earth leaving his love and kindness with family and friends to remember him bye.

Dr Marc was an angel to my husband and I. We met in 2016 when Dr Marc did a cardiac cath and told us Bill needed triple bi-pass surgery.
He was so compassionate and caring all through the years he treated my husband. I never thought "thank you" was near enough. We both just loved him dearly and were so very saddened at his diagnosis of ALS. Bill emailed him a few times and thought of him often while I followed him as a FB friend.
Heaven has gained an amazing, kind, caring and very special soul.
God be with the family and may you find peace in knowing how many lives were made better by your beloved Dr Marc.
