Marcel Lynn Sluke, 62, of West Fargo, died unexpectedly at his home on April 11, 2025. Marcel was born May 11, 1962, in Park River, ND to Lynn and Joanne (Foerster) Sluke.
Marcel graduated from Fordville High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He attended Lake Region State College and went on to graduate from UND in 1985 with a B.S. in Business Administration, Banking and Finance. He was co-captain of the UND baseball team and played shortstop, garnering the nickname "the vacuum" as he rarely missed a play. He had the highest batting average on the team, ending his senior year at.426 and was named team MVP.
His 40-year business career included finance roles with Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Services in Park River; Farm Credit Services in Breckenridge, Morris and Moorhead MN; Office of the Comptroller in Fargo; AgriBank in Moorhead and Fargo; and most recently, 20 years at Land O'Lakes Finance Co. headquartered in St. Paul, MN.
Marcel and Lisa (Diemert) were married in 2001 in Fargoand are members of Holy Cross Catholic Church. They loved to play golf, pinochle, entertain and travel together. His greatest joy was entertaining his 24 nieces and nephews and attending their activities.
His love for baseball extended beyond college, including assistant coaching with Fargo South High School baseball team in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He played fastpitch softball and was an original member of Fargo Mudhens amateur baseball team. He played with the 1999 ND Class AA State Championship Team managed by Roger Demers.
Marcel volunteered his time with ND Special Olympics, Churches United shelter and youth baseball programs.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa; his brothers Dale Sluke of Fordville, David Sluke of West Fargo, and Mike (Renee) Sluke Galveston, TX; his sister-in-law Nedra Sluke (Minot, ND) and 24 nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Dan Sluke and sisters-in-law Denise Sluke and Mary Sluke.
Visitation will be Monday, April 21 at 1pm followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2pm, both will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo. A private family burial will be held later at Buffalo ND cemetery.
