Marcelene died Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Stanton Health Center.
Marcelene M. Tejkl, daughter of Arthur and Volanda (Borgelt) Schlecht, was born January 1, 1939, at Beemer, Nebraska. She spent her elementary years at the Lutheran parochial school in Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School in 1956.
Marcelene married her high school sweetheart, Loren Tejkl, on September 27, 1958, in Yankton South Dakota. She was his date for 71 years and his wife for 66 and a half wonderful years. They were also blessed with three children, Loren Jr., MaLaine, and Anthony.
The couple lived on the family farm that was homesteaded by Loren's mother's family. Marcelene worked at the Stanton Register, Norfolk Daily News, and Stanco Farm Supply for a time before being employed with the United States Postal Service where she worked until she retired.
Although Marcelene spent her early years in town, once she was married and lived on the farm, she became a farm wife and was very involved in showing cattle. When her children were old enough to be in 4-H and start showing, on most weekends you would find her at cattle shows all over the area. First hauling cattle in the back of a pickup with a stock rack and later hauling a trailer full of show cattle. She was talented enough to be able to back into any area that was necessary to unload them. Marcelene was affectionately known to many in the cattle showing community as "Mama Tejkl" and would always be dressed in her usual attire consisting of shorts, nylons, and cowboy boots! She was very competitive and was always guiding her children in what they could do better next time. Her passion for showing cattle competitively was later passed down to her grandchildren.
Marcelene and Loren's trips to the Nebraska State Fair and Aksarben were yearly occurrences. As Aksarben usually fell on their anniversary, the only Aksarben they missed was for their fiftieth anniversary, when they enjoyed a second honeymoon! Marcelene even enjoyed this past year's events, getting around on a scooter so she could still see everything.
Up until March of this year, Marcelene continued another of her talents which was sewing. She made her children's clothing up until they were in high school and also made a multitude of baby blankets for family and friends. She enjoyed making crafts and created many wreaths through the years. Marcelene baked and decorated numerous beautiful wedding cakes, delivering them throughout the area and even to Colorado. She was also famous for her butterhorn rolls.
She was a member of New England Congregational Church in Stanton and the Order of Eastern Star.
Marcelene is survived by her beloved husband, Loren Tejkl, Sr. of Stanton; children, Loren, Jr. (Carey) Tejkl of Stanton and MaLaine (Boyd) Strope of O'Neill; grandchildren, Tucker (Kylie) Tejkl of Shelby, Cally (Brody) Barnes of Meridian, Idaho, Tejlor Strope (fiancé Owen Smith) of Pisgah, Iowa, and Berren Strope of O'Neill; great-grandchildren, Weston, Cohen, and Jack Tejkl; her sister, Violet Voelker of Newman Grove; sister-in-law, Shirley Schlecht of North Glenn, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Anthony Arthur; two brothers, Dallas (Anita) Schlecht and Dwane Schlecht.
Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
