Marcelino Villaflor Obituary
Born in Hilongos, Leyte, Philippines to Vicente and Antonia Villaflor, "Marc," as he later became known, joined the U.S Navy in 1962 and moved to the United States in 1970 with his growing family. He became a Navy corpsman and received an associates degree from George Washington University. He retired from the Navy in 1982 after 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked in the insurance industry, eventually running his own insurance agency with his wife Tessie for over 44 years.
He was a longtime active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, where he was in the Knights of Columbus and a lay eucharistic minister. He also was instrumental in founding the first Filipino chapter of the Knights of Columbus for the San Lorenzo Spiritual Center. In 1980, he served as the President of the Philippine American Community of Tidewater (PACT). In his spare time, Marc enjoyed playing Scrabble, fishing, Karaoke and dancing.
Marc was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Theresa S. Villaflor ("Tessie"), as well as his sisters Teresa Almorado and Marcela Villaflor, and his brother Rosalino Villaflor.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses - Genevieve Villaflor (Adrian Curry), Antonnette Villaflor-Zitouni (Driss Zitouni), Robert J. Villaflor (Brittain Villaflor), and Marcelino S. Villaflor, Jr. (Anna Kathryn Villaflor); 12 grandchildren: Samya Zitouni, Sofia Zitouni, Hannah Brown, Karina Curry, Jensen Villaflor, Saskia Curry, Tyler Villaflor, Kenza Zitouni, Joseph Villaflor, Carroll Villaflor, Lily Villaflor, and Katy Villaflor; as well as his sister Minda Villaflor and second wife Imelda Lacuesta Villaflor and numerous other family members and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. A wake service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 4:00 PM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
