Marcella Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home - Alma on Mar. 30, 2026.
Marcella Irene Smith, aged 87, passed away on March 25, 2026, at Arbor Grove Assisted Living in Alma. Marcy was a lifelong resident of Sumner, Michigan where she was born on April 10, 1938, to Earl and Daisy (Miller) Wood.

She graduated from Crystal High School in 1957 and married William (Bill) Smith on May 3, 1959.

Marcy was known for her flowers. At one point she had a collection of about 70 orchids in her home and always had to have large tubs of pink petunias every summer. She also loved all kinds of animals, whether it was the pet fox she had as a girl, or her goats, or cherished pug dogs. She even enjoyed feeding the possums that frequented the porch. And she and Dad relished their unexpected encounter with a bear that was passing through.

Marcy is survived by her daughters, Kimberly (and Phil) Whittier of Sumner, and Kelly Smith of Breckenridge. She also is survived by her granddaughter, Emily (and Bryan) Sprague of Lyons and newborn great-grandson, Theodore William Sprague. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, infant son Timothy, and sisters Violet Moffatt and Shirley Hunt.

Per her wishes, there will be no service. She will be interred with her infant son at Sumner Cemetery at a later date. Her family would like to thank the staff at Arbor Grove Assisted Living for their compassionate and loving care of her for the last three years.
