Marcello Liberatore Obituary

Visit the Nardolillo Funeral Home Inc. - Cranston website to view the full obituary.

Marcello Domenic Liberatore was born on March 24, 1939, in Fontana Liri, Italy, to Antonio Liberatore and Loreta Patriarca. At just sixteen years old, he embarked on the journey that would shape the rest of his life. On January 1, 1955, Marcello arrived in the United States aboard the historic Italian ocean liner Conte Biancamano. Traveling alone as a teenager, he crossed the Atlantic with courage and hope, beginning a new life in America while carrying the values and traditions of his hometown in his heart.

Marcello settled in Rhode Island, where he became known not only for his work ethic and incredible discipline as a man, but also for his remarkable ability to repair anything mechanical. Over the years, he built his family with his wife Bruna in Cranston RI. He also started / owned / operated several small mechanical businesses, including transmission shops and gas stations in Cranston, Providence, and Johnston, RI.

He had many passions that reflected his zest for life—playing cards and bocce, making homemade wine, gardening, fixing anything with gears or an engine, and watching soccer, hockey, Formula One racing, and cycling. Whether in his garage, at a family table, or among friends at the club, Marcello brought an unwavering loyalty to those around him.

Marcello is survived by his devoted wife, Bruna Costrini Liberatore, originally from Fontana Liri and residing in Greenville, RI. He leaves behind his beloved children: Tony Liberatore (Fall River, MA), Barbara Liberatore (Salamanca, Spain), Ray Liberatore (Boston, MA), and Ida Liberatore Rocha (Greenville, RI).

He was deeply proud of his grandchildren: Eva Varela Liberatore, Marco Varela Liberatore, Siena Liberatore, Carina Liberatore, and Christian Liberatore.

Marcello is survived by his sister Maria, and is predeceased by his sisters Gina, Antonietta, and Ida.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons- and daughters-in-law: Claudia Esposito Liberatore (Ray), Heather Machado Liberatore (Tony), Freddy Rocha (Ida), and Justo Varela (Barbara).

A proud member of the Santa Maria di Prata Society in Cranston, Marcello found community, laughter, and lifelong friendships among fellow immigrants who shared his heritage and spirit.

Marcello will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy—rooted in courage, craftsmanship, discipline and dedication—will continue to live on in the many lives he touched and in the generations that follow.
