Marcia Glissman Obituary

Funeral services for Marcia Glissman, 90, of Knoxville, will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home (W. Main and Harlan St) Knoxville, Iowa. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, everyone is welcome to join the family at Deng's Garden (Marcia's favorite) for a time of continued fellowship.
Memorials in Marcia's honor may be directed to the Knoxville First United Methodist Church or to the Marion County Humane Society.
Marcia Jean was born July 20, 1934, in Attica, Indiana, to Richard and Leah Nelson. She was the third of four children. In school she was a cheerleader, and when not in school, she liked to play basketball with the guys. She graduated from Attica High School in 1952. She then moved to Denver, Colorado where she found office work near the Army Base. This is where she met a young man, through a mutual friend, named Hugh Glissman. They were married in 1955 and blessed with four children: David Edward, Karen Ann, Hugh Jr., and Leah Jean. Their son, Hugh Jr., passed away shortly after birth.
The couple made their home in Knoxville. In addition to raising her family, Marcia worked at the hospital clinic, where Hugh had his pharmacy, in the medical records department.
Marcia was known as a loving and caring person. She kept her home immaculate and loved working in the yard. Keeping the neighborhood looking sharp was a priority. Marcia and Hugh also loved keeping their family active with hiking, boating, and traveling, often going to the Branson area, where they enjoyed music shows like the Shepherd of the Hills, as well as going to Silver Dollar City.
March, however, belonged to basketball: her brackets were legendary, and in recent years she cheered with equal enthusiasm for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Indiana Fever's phenom, Caitlin Clark. Marcia not only loved to watch most sports, but enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, hiking, and boating with her family. She equally loved watching and cheering on her children and grandchildren in their various sports.
Marcia passed away on Wednesday, June 18th, in her home where she was surrounded by family. Sadly, her son, David Glissman, passed away earlier that day. She was also preceded in death by her husband Hugh in 2017, and two of her three siblings, Richard Nelson Jr, and Charlotte Martin.
Marcia will be greatly missed by her daughters: Karen Glissman and Leah (Doran) Davis; daughter-in-law, Stella Glissman; grandchildren: Joseph (Melissa) Glissman, Daniel Glissman, Stephanie (Zach) Stuart, Monica Glissman, Kristine (Ryan) Womack, William Sachs, Hannah Van Heukelom, and Jack Van Heukelom; great grandchildren: Haley, Taylor, Madison, Corissa, Graclyn, Greya, Ava, Peighton, Talen, Blakely, and Tinley; great great grandchildren: Taiden, Isla, and Kohen; brother, Ed (Rosetta) Nelson; along with many friends and relatives.
