Marcia Lea Helm, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Gibson) Ross was born September 5, 1931 in Montgomery County, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at her home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 7 days. Marcia was raised on a farm south of Red Oak. She attended Coburg High School and graduated with the class of 1949. Marcia furthered her education at Commercial Extension in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating, she moved to Red Oak and went to work for the Farmers Mercantile. On October 2, 1955, Marcia was united in marriage to Kenneth LeRoy Helm at the United Presbyterian Church in Red Oak. She was a homemaker for several years before returning to work for the State of Iowa Liquor Store. After its closing, she went to work as a cook for the Red Oak Community School until her retirement. Marcia loved reading, sewing, cooking, bird watching and her flowers. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Curtis Jackson; brother: Richard Ross; and sister: Mary Askey. Marcia is survived by her husband Kenneth LeRoy Helm of Red Oak, IA; children: Sonia Jackson and husband Dave of Red Oak, IA; Tim Helm and significant other Joan Parris of Red Oak, IA; James Helm and wife Deb of Stanton, IA; and Monica Shearer and husband Russ of Red Oak, IA; 7 grandchildren: Hilary Jackson, Nick Jackson, Rachel Mills and significant other Lee Gebhardt, Melissa Bullington and husband Brian, Val Paulsen and husband Denny, Jessie Helm and significant other Kevin Bruning, and Chelsie Helm; 2 great-grandchildren: Bryce and Brody Paulsen; sister: Gwen Hossle and husband Max of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 17, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials in lieu of flowers to the family. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
