Marcia S. Kaplin

On Friday, November 21, 2025 our beloved Marcia Kaplin, 87, of Alexandria, VA, left us unexpectedly. Born Marcia Silver Eskowetz on March 15, 1938, in Greenwich, CT, to Sidney and Jenny Weiss Eskowetz, she spent her childhood in Greenwich and attended Boston University. Upon graduation with a degree in photography and journalism, Marcia worked for Look Magazine as a photographer. She met her husband Dr. Arnold Kaplin, on a New Years Eve blind date in 1958. They married June 19, 1960, in Greenwich, and immediately settled in New York. After the birth of their first child, the couple moved to Alexandria, VA, in 1964 and Marcia attended Catholic University, receiving a master's degree in social work. She adored her work as a licensed therapist and was beloved by her patients, who she was still seeing up to end of her life. Outside of work, Marcia was many things: intellectually curious, feminist, (occasionally reluctant) world traveler, athlete (ballet and tennis), photographer, lover of art, wine, film and coffee, moderate fashionista, proud Democrat. Above all, she was a loving and fiercely devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, Greta Slavitt, and grandson, Tristan Adams. In addition to her husband, Marcia is survived by her children, Dr. Gillian Adams (Warren Ferster), Dr. Adam Kaplin; and Jessica Kaplin (Scott Rosenfeld); and grandchildren, Galen Adams, Saskia Matthews, Madelyn Kaplin, and Jonas Kaplin. A memorial service for Marcia will be held Saturday, November 29, at 12 noon at the Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron St., Alexandria, VA, 22314.
