Marcia Grace Shafer,81, of Atlanta, Georgia died June 06, 2025 at A G Rhodes Atlanta. She was born October 14, 1943 in Newton, Iowa to the late Max and Mary Helen Shafer.
Miss Marcia Shafer has been a member of the St. John's community since before we were the St. John's Community. She was part of the Christian Community of Atlanta before we ever knew about Orthodoxy and is part of the very foundation of our life as St. John the Wonderworker Orthodox Church.
She came to Atlanta from Jacksonville, Florida, but was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Her life was not an easy one. It is no secret that she struggled with mental illness and endured a roller coaster ride of emotional suffering. But through it all radiated a light of faith and profound love for Christ which pierced the darkness and affected all of us around her. Her prayers have sustained a multitude. If she told you she would pray for you, you had a lifetime guarantee. Warriors come in unlikely packages, and our four-foot something Marcia, was quite the prayer warrior.
It's been a few years since she has been able to get around on her own. Wheelchair bound, she found a new route to fulfill her desire for fellowship - she discovered the cell phone! If she had your number, then you know how important community was to her. She cherished us, and we cherished her.
We will undoubtedly miss that cackle of hers, but we can be assured of her continuing to pray for us all.
Memory Eternal.
