Marcia Snow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Hillside Chapel on Dec. 18, 2024.
Beloved daughter, wife, mother, half - sister, Marcia G Snow (Simmons) went to be with her Lord & Savior on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by family and knew she was very loved. Preceded in death are husband Lawrence F Snow and parents Eugene and Marguerite (Burden) Simmons. Marcia was first introduced to the world on May 2, 1941, Aurora, IL. as Baby Girl Davis and adopted that very day by her loving parents Eugene and Marguerite Simmons. Marcia had a wonderful childhood filled with lots of love, laughter, and friends. Her best friends were the neighbor boys, Bobby and Paul, and they always found mischief. Marcia played many musical instruments before settling on the piano. She was a gifted pianist who could pick up a sheet of music or hear a tune and play it by ear. She was involved in many school organizations and a teen counselor for Girl Scouts. After high school Marcia continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, and received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education in 1963. She went on to teach 2nd grade at C M Bardwell Elementary School, Aurora, IL. On Dec 29, 1963, Marcia married the love of her life Larry Snow, whom she met in the 3rd grade. In 1964, they left Illinois and moved to California where they began their new life, careers, and family. They had three children: Matthew (Susan) Snow (children Maria, Dylan (Dani) and Daniel), Suzanne (Jason) Dahm (children Madeline and Logan), and Julie (Michael) Schaller (stepchildren Max and Chloe (Tanner) Day). Life was very busy in CA as a stay-at-home mom managing swimming lessons, dance lessons, vacation plans, beach outings, camping trips, school programs, music, church activities, and sewing. Marcia was very creative, an excellent cook, always knew what to say or how to spark a conversation and had the patience of a saint. She and Larry were very active at St James Presbyterian Church, Tarzana, CA. with interfaith and youth programs. Once her children were older, Marcia began working at Nobel Jr High, Northridge, CA. In 1986, after 22 years of California sun it was replaced with Minnesota snow. Once settled in MN, Marcia went to work at Dayton Hudson/Target Corp. Larry, the love of her life passed on December 24, 2002. Marcia retired in 2004. Retirement provided Marcia with time to return to community work and church activities at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis, MN. She made many friends at the WPC Social Service Sewing program which provided handmade garments for those in need and the Y program. This work provided her with great joy. She also enjoyed watching Bald Eagle Cam nests all over the world and cheering on her favorite professional sports teams, the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Twins. In 2014, after many years of wondering about her birth parents, Marcia began the search. In July 2016, information on her birth mother was found, and Marcia met two of her half-sisters, Diane and Bonnie. This discovery and meeting provided a very quiet and reflective moment for Marcia. She went from being an only child to having four half-sisters. It was smiles all around. Marcia loved to be with her grandchildren Maria, Dylan, Madeline, Daniel and Logan, celebrating birthdays and going to their sporting events, plays, and recitals. She will be greatly missed by everyone who was graced with her friendship, kindness, and love.
We would like to thank Saint Therese at St. Odilia, Shoreview, MN, and the amazing nursing staff and aids for their compassion, grace, and presence in the final years of Marcia's life. We would also like to thank Allina Complex Care team for their care and Health Partners Hospice.
