Marcile Fleck Drake McGlennen was welcomed into heaven on May 26, 2023. She began her life 102 years earlier on May 7, 1921 as daughter of Floyd and Daisy (Brooks) Fleck in Disko, Indiana. At age twelve she gave her life to Christ and followed Him her whole life.
After high school, Marcile graduated from beauty school and opened her own shop in South Whitley. Every day as she walked home, a young man, Corlyle "Bud" Drake, "just happened" to be sweeping the sidewalk in front of the grocery store where he worked. The two dated, and then came WWII. Bud was sent to the Aleutians and Marcile moved to Fort Wayne distributing doughnuts at the USO, inspecting superchargers for planes, and joining the Civil Air Patrol.
After the war she soloed in a plane, worked on the North Manchester News-Journal, and reunited with Bud. They were married on June 7, 1947. When Bud graduated from Manchester College, Marcile and Bud moved to Hamilton, and then to Converse. Two daughters Sharmin and Jill made a happy family of four. Marcile loved being a wife and mother. She always made things fun and festive for them all. She also enjoyed painting in oils and doing secretarial work for Landola Mobile Homes and library assistance at Oak Hill.
Marcile became a secretary in the Taylor Media Center shortly after Bud became an associate music professor at Taylor University. She also became director of the Helping Hand Ministries and it became her passion. She spent hours sorting and cleaning clothes, delivering free bread and meat, and counseling. She loved Bible studies and women's retreats.
When Bud was diagnosed with Parkinson's, Marcile and Bud moved to a condo at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester. Bud later entered the Peabody nursing home, with Marcile diligently caring for him as she kept on top of his meds, fed him, and brought freshly laundered and ironed clothes for him daily.
Marcile and Bud were married 53 years. When Bud died, Marcile was lonely, although she had always said there would never be anyone but Bud for her. God had other plans. Marcile renewed a friendship with an old family friend, George McGlennen. They fell in love, married, and moved to George's home in the mountains of Clarksville, Georgia. They had eight good years together until he passed away. She then moved back to be near her family in Marion.
Always beautiful inside and out, Marcile was a treasure who blessed everyone around her.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharmin (Don) Brenneman, Marion, and Jill (Roger) Judd, Upland, and granddaughters Joanna Brenneman and Emily Judd. Her parents and sister Pauline and brother Ben preceded her in passing.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2 from noon to 2 pm at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home (College Park Chapel), 4601 S Western Ave., Marion, Indiana. A service celebrating Marcile's life will begin at 2 pm, with Pastor Don Brenneman officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Stillwater Hospice and Helping Hand in Upland.

I see that in May 312023I wrote an encouraging tribute to Sharmin Drake Brenneman regarding her mother´s beautiful long life. And now I am aware that Sharmin herself has gone into the eternal PRESENCE of G-d just two months ago. My husband , John and I attended a celebration of Sharmin´s life in their church near Marion IN in Sat. March 29. If Sharmin´s sister, Jill or her daughter. Joanna, or her husband, Donald or her sisters in love, Karen and Ruth happen to ope. This memorial keepsake, please know that John and I are grateful to be counted among your family friends. And we continue to pray with you as you carry the tender grief of loss in your hearts.

She was a special lady. Always beautiful. Everyone who knew her were blessed by her friendship. My mother (Helen Kling) didn´t have many social acquaintances but Marcile was a dear friend to her. My dad (Allen) and Mr Drake spent many happy hours fishing. I always suspected their shared memories of WW II enabled them to share things they couldn´t share with others.
I visited Marcile often when she was in Clarksville GA. I was so glad she and George found happiness in later years. The Drakes are some of my fondest memories from growing up in Converse.

Met Marcile when Don and Sharmin were serving as pastors at Wesley United Methodist Church in Union City. She charmed the entire congregation and quickly learned every one's name. The joy she brought is a sunshine I will never forget. Thank you, Marcile, I am so pleased our paths crossed. You were loved by many. Now rejoice with our Lord!

I shall miss my mentor, Marcile! However, when I see her in Heaven, I will continue to seek her presence and learn all I can from her gentle, sweet, wise soul. My life is so blessed because of Marcile.
May Sharmin and Jill - and their families - be filled with comfort and peace during this time. And I thank you sisters for sharing your mom with me!
Love to you all!

Sharmin and Jill, I will always cherish the few years that we spent living across the street from the Drake family. We were just kids and your mother was always so much fun and so beautiful! She came to our silly summer plays in our yard with your dad, she laughed when it wasn´t funny, she always welcomed us into your house and she always gave out wonderful hugs. I know you will miss her always, I am praying for comfort for you and all of your family.

The Drakes became like family to me when Sharmin and I became friends at Taylor University. Mrs. McGlennon was a reflection of the Lord Jesus with her warmth and caring heart.
