Marcos A. Torres Vargas, age 76, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, in Bridgeport, surrounded by his loved ones.
Marcos was born on October 9, 1949, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to the late Maria Antonia Vargas Ortiz and Modesto Torres Santos. He was raised in Ponce, where he built the foundation of the strong, joyful, and charismatic man so many came to love.
As a young adult, Marcos relocated to Brooklyn, New York, beginning a life filled with movement, adventure, and meaningful connections. He later moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, returned to Puerto Rico for a time, and ultimately settled back in Connecticut in 2002, where he remained until his passing.
Marcos was an excellent mechanic whose skills were admired by many. He worked at Maldonado’s Gas Station and McClain Service Station, where his dedication, talent, and work ethic were well known. He had a lifelong love for working on cars, listening to music of all genres, and was a devoted fan of boxing.
Always the life of the party, Marcos had an infectious energy and a natural charm. He was sociable, friendly, and carried a contagious smile—one that lives on through his children. Known as a true trendsetter, Marcos took great pride in his appearance and was always impeccably dressed. Even riding his motorcycle, his hair was always perfect. He was deeply loved by his nephews and younger siblings and greatly admired by the younger men of the Torres family.
Marcos was a proud father to his children: Marcos Jr. (Adriana), Nancy (Víctor), Kenneth, Jessica (Hjalmar), Xiomara (Luis), Xavier, Alexis, and Marck. He was a devoted grandfather to Marcos III, Daniel, Leslie, Cindy, Erica, Derek, Jose, Astrid, Jacob, Xavier Jr., Joell, Alexis S., Jonah, and Tianna, and a cherished great-grandfather to Gael, Elian, Kalani, Ellie, Nolynn, Gunnar, Kayden, Lucas, Logan, Lincoln, Keilani, and Jaylani.
He was predeceased by his parents, Maria Antonia Vargas Ortiz and Modesto Torres Santos; by his siblings Julio, Luz Gina, Dolores, Rosa, and Carmen. Marcos is survived by his siblings Marta E., Carlos, and Ricardo, and by his loving companion of many years, Billie Jean Hall, who stood by his side with love and devotion.
