Marcus Kenneth Anderson
3/25/65 - 10/8/25
Marcus K. Anderson, 60, of Claire City, SD, rounded home base for the final time on October 8, 2025 after his courageous fight with Frontal Temporal Dementia.
Marcus was born in Milbank, SD. At age 3 he was one of the first Reye's Syndrome survivors. He grew up in
Watertown, SD and proudly graduated as a Watertown Arrow in 1983. After high school he graduated from Macalester College in St Paul, MN. He worked at Thomson Reuters (formerly West Publishing) for 23 years.
Though his roots were in South Dakota, he was a Minnesotan at heart. He loved cheering on the Twins, Vikings and Wild, whether from the stands or his favorite chair at home, and he wore their jerseys with pride. He'd often boast about being a Softball World Champion, a title he held with joy and humor. His devotion to the Vikings ran so deep, he practically bled purple-not just for the team, but also for his love of Prince.
It is in Minnesota where he met and married Ellen. Through this marriage he was blessed with his proudest achievement & most meaningful role; becoming a dad to Nolan & Hazel. He adored his children, no conversation with him ever ended without hearing about them. Whether it was a recent achievement, a funny story or just a proud moment, he showed it with the most joy & enthusiasm.
Marcus is survived by his son, Nolan and his daughter, Hazel; sister, Jaci Wolfe (Brent) of Claire City, SD; brother, Steven Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, and brother, Brent Anderson (Marilyn) of Rosemount, MN; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was met in heaven by his parents, Ken and Darla; and his sister, Teresa Anderson Grieshaber.
Memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in
Watertown, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Please, in honor of Marcus' love for the game we ask that you try and wear a sports jersey of your choice.
