Marcus Bernard Hale, a man known by many names – Marcus, Blake, Maestro Blake, Marc, or Mr. Skyballer himself – but most importantly, known as friend, passed away on February 5, 2025, at the age of 47. Born on August 10, 1977, Marcus touched the lives of countless individuals with his vibrant spirit and genuine warmth. To know him was to know a friend.
Marcus's life was a symphony of passions and accomplishments. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School's class of 1995, he led the "Marching 100" as Drum Major, a testament to his musical talent and leadership. This passion and constant pursuit for knowledge carried him to Everest Institute and Atlanta Technical College, always striving to learn and grow.
More than his accomplishments, Marcus will be remembered for his infectious energy and the genuine connections he forged with those around him. Whether he was your son, father, brother, cousin, coworker, partner, schoolmate, or neighbor, he offered his friendship freely and unconditionally. He had a gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
He leaves behind a legacy of love for his family, survived by his beloved son Marcus Hale Jr., devoted mother Jackie Billingslea and stepfather Greg Billingslea, as well as his two brothers Vincent Hale and Kevin Billingslea and four sisters Stacy Johnson, Candace Harris, Patrice Hale, and Crystal Billingslea. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Hale and grandparents Dorothy & James Hale. His memory will be cherished by his family and friends in Atlanta, Georgia, and Lexington, Kentucky, and by all who had the privilege of calling him friend.
Marcus's absence will be deeply felt, but the music of his life will continue to play on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his passion, and the unwavering friendship he offered to all. May his memory be a blessing.
