Marda Leigh Fair, aged 84, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly at her home on February 4, 2025.
Born on August 26, 1940, to Oliver S. and Roberta (Snow) Mahaney in Coffeyville, Kansas, Marda was raised in a loving household alongside her younger brother, Michael Mahaney. She attended Garfield Grade School and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School before going on to Pittsburg State University for three years while waiting on an opening in cosmetology school.
Marda began her professional journey as a beautician, but her path took a turn after welcoming her son, Darin. She found herself working at Southland in South Coffeyville and later transitioned to a role at Western Publishing. Ultimately, Marda spent many fulfilling years at R&L Carpenter Enterprises, where she served as secretary and payroll clerk until her well-deserved retirement.
Marda had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel special. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Friends of her son often reflected on her as the sweetest person they had ever met. She embraced life with joy, relishing in laughter and cultivating genuine relationships. Marda had an innate ability to listen and connect, ensuring everyone felt valued and cared for. Her presence was a bright light in the lives of those around her, and her legacy of love and kindness will be cherished forever.
Marda leaves behind her son Darin Fair, longtime friend and caregiver Dawn Slayton and her family, as well as a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Oliver S. and Roberta Mahaney and her brother Michael Mahaney.
Marda’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 2 pm, held at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, located at 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Officiated by Pastor Boyd Hamlin, this gathering will provide a space for family and friends to come together in love and remembrance. Prior to the service, the family warmly invites all who knew Marda to join them on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM at the chapel. This time of sharing stories and reflecting on her beautiful life will be a precious opportunity to honor the impact she had on everyone around her. After the services, Marda will be cremated, with a private inurnment taking place at Fairview Cemetery, where she will rest beside her beloved parents and brother.
