Mardel Stream
Services for Mardel Stream, age 81, of
Churdan, Iowa, will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church,
Jefferson, Iowa. Interment will be at Highland Township Cemetery,
Churdan, Iowa.
Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held from 5:00 – 7:00pm Monday, February 2, 2026 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home,
Jefferson, Iowa.
Memorials are suggested to the local ambulance services in either Churdan or Jefferson.
Mardel Jane Thomsen was born March 29, 1944, in
Fremont, Nebraska to Adelbert Frederick Thomsen and Verna Margaret (Buchmiller) Thomsen. She spent her childhood in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska and moved to Jefferson Iowa at the age of nine. Mardel attended Jefferson school and graduated in 1961. She was a member of the Grant Gremlins 4-H Club and helped her parents with the egg farm. She worked at the Movie theater, Telephone office, and the FSA office in Jefferson in her early years. Mardel retired after 28 years as the secretarial office manager at Greene County Medical Center's Public Health department in 2003. Mardel was a member of the Rainbows, GA Club of Churdan, and a member of the ABW in Churdan that did many hours of missionary work.
On August 11, 1966, Mardel was united in marriage to Meredith Curtis Stream. They resided on a farm in
Jefferson, Iowa and enjoyed caring for and transporting horses for an uncle. They enjoyed many miles on the road with each other, and sometimes with friends, traveling through most of the United States and seeing many beautiful places.
Mardel and Meredith later moved to their farm in
Churdan, Iowa and welcomed Michele and Mitch. Mardel continued to tend to those farming, with delivery of meals and her wonderful "sweet treats" that were always available in her home to all who entered in. After her retirement, she enjoyed caring for her seven grandchildren and later attending all the events that she enjoyed so much. Mardel enjoyed sewing, quilting, tending her flower beds and garden, camping, coffee time with friends (and a sweet treat water aerobics and traveling with friends and family.
Mardel died January 30, 2026, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Carroll Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those who survive include her husband, Meredith of Churdan; daughter, Michele (Dan) Madsen of Jefferson; son, Mitch (Jill) Stream of Churdan; and grandchildren: Mickenzie Nelson, Margaret (Joshua Metheny) Nelson, Daniele and Nickalus Madsen, Mason, Emma, and Broc Stream; brother, Larry (Pam) Thomsen of Jefferson; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
