Margaret Jean Achatz

Margaret Jean Achatz age 98, of Clay Twp., MI passed away August 29, 2024 in the Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital, Royal Oak. She was born February 5, 1926 in Chicago, IL. She married Frank Robert Achatz, on November 4, 1944 in Richmond, MI he passed away April 4, 1971.
Margaret owned and operated Margaret Jean's "Achatz" restaurant, in Clay Twp. which she started alongside her husband on October 2, 1970, retiring in 2013. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and dear friend to many. She never turned anyone away hungry for not having the means to pay for a meal.
Margaret is survived by her children Robert (Jeanne) Achatz, Victoria (the late James) Lawson, Cecilia (Ben) Horton, Veronica (the late Dan) Gerow, Russell (Rosanna) Achatz, and Cliff Achatz, 25 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 22 great great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by children Mary Ann Williams-Bell and Christopher Achatz, and a grandson Frank Achatz.
Mrs. Achatz will be instate at 11:00 AM, with mass at 11:30 AM, Wednesday September 4, 2024 in the Our Lady on the River Parish St. Catherines Catholic Church, Algonac. Visitation 2-8 PM Tuesday in the Young Gilbert Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. Algonac, MI. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Clair, MI. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the charity or donors choice.
