Margaret Anne “Peggy” Hones Morisen of Kernersville, North Carolina was born the youngest of 3 on May 11, 1947 in Mineola, New York to Helen Voight Hones and Charles Hones. Peggy passed away at Moses H Cone Memorial Hospital on November 4, 2025, of sepsis. Peggy moved to Kernersville with her daughter Krista in August of 2025 from Kinston, North Carolina.
Peggy was a retired Suffolk County, NY recorder who moved to Indiana in 2004 and stayed there until 2021 when she moved with her daughter to North Carolina. Peggy loved animals, especially cats, being a risk taker, having taken flying lessons when she was young. She obtained an Associate of Science degree in Geology from Suffolk County Community College in New York. She loved to travel, and her fondest memories included traveling to Hawaii, Pensacola, Florida and Prague, Czech Republic for her 71st birthday. She’d traveled most of the United States, missing only Alaska and Michigan. She was proud of her daughter, Krista, and all she achieved. She watched as her daughter achieved her pilot’s license and her doctorate. Peggy was a one-of-a-kind lady who lived life to the fullest, always had to have her wine every night and her cigarettes! Peggy loved fishing and exploring! Peggy always had health issues, but she never let them stop her. Even after being almost completely bedridden in 2021 from a fall that shattered her knee in 9 places and not one but four total hip replacements, she would take adventures with her daughter. Peggy was a character, you never knew what would come out of her mouth.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John “Tex” Morisen in 2013, her brother Charles “Sandy” Hones, her parents Charles and Helen Hones, her cousin Carole Schiegner, her niece Suzanne Schiegner, nephew William Bourguignon, and multiple cats including Kukui, Stormy, Opus, Apollo, Tucker, Hamilton, Spooky, and Twinkle Toes and countless others and her dogs Baron, Max, Thunder, Cheyenne, Nina, Logan, and Chewy. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Krista Morisen of Kernersville, NC (formerly Huntington, NY), her sister Judith Hones Magin of Honolulu, HI, her niece Janis Magin Meierdiercks of Kaneohe, HI, her nephews John Magin of Huntington, NY, Paul Bourguignon of Ledyard, CT, Thomas and Dawn Bourguignon of Lexington, SC and her sister in law Elizabeth Wilbur of New York, NY.
Services will be held at a later date.
